Plaxico gets a rude welcome to his new home

Former Steelers and Giants receiver Plaxico Burress began his two-year prison term on Tuesday.

First stop? Rikers Island.

Needless to say, he wasn’t welcomed with a ticker-tape parade.

According to the New York Post, Burress was met with taunts of “asshole!” and “the Giants suck!”

“He was depressed,” an unnamed prison guard told the Post. “He was trying to keep to himself, but everyone was yelling at him.”

Burress spent only one night at Rikers. On Wednesday, Burress was transported by car (or maybe crappy old school bus, like in The Longest Yard) to Ulster Correctional Facility in Napanoch. He’ll be evaluated there for more permanent placement elsewhere in the New York prison system.

But he apparently won’t have to worry about dealing with any inmate who hopes to make a name for himself by sticking a shiv into a Super Bowl champion.

"[Burress] will be separated from the inmate population at all times and confined to a single cell,” Correction Department spokeswoman Linda Foglia told the Post. “He’ll only get out for three hours of recreation per day, plus his required meetings with counselors and medical and mental health staffers. He’s allowed three showers a week and one visit per weekend.”

Meanwhile, Jay Leno said earlier this week during the monologue of his weeknight show (only on NBC at 10:00 ET/PT, with all ad sales handled by Kraft Sports Group) that extra security was employed, so that Burress wouldn’t try anything. “Like what,” Leno said, “steal a guard’s gun [and] shoot himself in the other leg?”
