Steelers put Frank Summers on IR, bring back Carey Davis

With running back Frank Summers out for the year, the Pittsburgh Steelers have brought a familiar face back to the ‘Burgh.

Carey Davis has been added to the roster, taking the place of Summers, who is now on IR.

Summers was a fifth-round pick in the 2009 draft.  He played in the first two games of the year, but sat out Sunday’s loss to the Bengals with a back injury.

Davis spent 2006 through 2008 with the Steelers.  He plays tailback and fullback, and he has returned kicks.

  1. They need a good fullback. Parker can’t run in a one back set. He needs someone in front of him, like Davis or Kreider use to do. This could be good.

  2. You know what would have been smart? Bringing up Isaac Redman from the practice squad – a guy who actually likes running the ball forward. Bringing back Carey Davis to whiff on blocks and fall down at the line of scrimmage on pass receptions again is about as bright as bringing back Mitch Berger to kick 24 yard punts.
What’s the point Tomlin? I thought you were going to bring in some guys and try to get better at this position. You’re just reaching back for the same guy who didn’t perform well last year. Could have put Summers on the practice squad and brought up Redman, rather than shutting down Summers with an injury that would probably be better in a couple of weeks.
I guess all the fish-hacks at the Post-Gazette get what they have been screaming for the last couple of months – Carey freaking Davis. Now they will begin their editorial campaign to bring back Gary Russell, so he can fall down in the backfield on all his short-yardage rushing “attempts”.
Somehow, allowing the Pittsburgh print journalists to configure your roster does not feel like “progress” to me.

  3. With this, and Ben appearing on Raw? When do the midget clowns on highwires debut? I am getting worried.

..When do the midget clowns on highwires debut?..
    Don’t worry.
Vox and his li’l buddy & co-village-idiot steeler-hater will be along any minute now.

  5. IAG They arent bring up Redman cause of 2 reasons . He isnt up to speed with the playbook . And he isnt the best blocker , thats why they kept Summers over Redman .
The PG doesnt run the team the Steelers and Tomlin do . Dont make dumb statements ok ? Look no one wants the Steelers to win more than us but life isnt perfect . Do you want Tomlin to Start listening to the fans to run the team ? If that was the case our team would keep alot of older players with big contracts and Burress would be back and so forth .
If fans know anything the Steelers bring back mostly former players when a player is added . Why do you think they signed Davenport so many times ?

  6. They might as well give this guy a shot.
Lord knows, none of their other RBs are showing much.
Maybe they should let Steely McBeam try running the ball.
He can’t do much worse than the guys they have already at RB…
    lol!

City of Champions! Feels good man.

    lol!
Where’s the Pirates? How come you didn’t include them? Is it because in your so-called “city of champions” the Pirates have broken the pro sports record for most consecutive losing seasons in a row (17 and COUNTING!)?
How does that jive with your ”city of champions” nonsense? Over the span of last 17 years, Pittsburgh can “boast” to having the worst performing pro sports team (not just in baseball either but in ALL of pro sports).
Why don’t you Pittsburgh homers ever mention this little fact as much as you mention the Squealers?
Ignoring your city’s glorified Triple A baseball that’s disguised as a MLB team says a lot.
How does having the overall worst performing pro sports team from the span of the last 17 years fit into the whole “city of champions” foolishness?
Your baseball team isn’t even the 2nd best in Pennsylvania. Even he Scranton Wilkes-Barre Yankees are a better team than the Pirates!
    lol!
Maybe the Pirates trouble is they don’t have a cool mascot like the Squealers do.
Maybe they can come up with their own version “Steely McBeam”…
    lol!
Here’s a video for YOU to look at:

    Cool, huh?
    lol!

  8. steeler-hater – don’t you ever go after Steely McBeam! He is the heart and soul of Steelers football! Thats really a low blow.
The Pirates are my favorite baseball team. You are right though, I should include their 5 world series titles when I talk about my “city of champions.” So, the grand total for Pittsburgh championships is 14. Not too bad. LOL ROFL LOL!
    Post your city’s accomplishments.

  9. steeler-hater – oh yeah, while we are getting to know each other….my men’s hockey team won the championship last night (feels good man). Scored a goal. Similar to Ben and Santonio I make big plays in big games. I know it has nothing to do w/ pittsburgh sports, but its nice to cheer for champions and be a champion.

  10. @ prez charlie:
    lol!
I knew you thought Steely was cool.
What are you, 8 years old?
Don’t like cheerleaders, either I suppose… lemme guess, cuz girls got “cooties”, right?
    lol!
Sure, the Pirates have 5 titles… only 5 titles since 1882! And you probably weren’t even alive back when they had their last one, back in 1979.
Before that, their last was in 1971 and before that, it was 1960. Before that, 1925! Before that, 1909!
Yep, a real baseball dynasty ya got there.
    lol!
I see by your willingness to “include” the Pirates long ago titles just proves my point about Pittsburgh fans. You homers make yourselves blind to all the losing years of your teams, especially when the losing streak lasts for decades. Like the Pirates (or should I say, “Pyrites”) not have a title for 30 years and counting or how the ”Squealers”, who went their first 45 years without a title.
Heck, the Squealers only had 1 playoff game appearance in their first 39 years of existence and they even LOST that game!
Yep, gotta remember only the good times and not the bad. Like when the Penguins nearly went bankrupt and only are still around because Mario Lemieux risked a lot to save the team or how the “Pyrites” are have been considered the laughingstock of the MLB since 1993 or how the Squealers were the laughingstock of the NFL for their first 40 years of existence.
    lol!
    lol!
And then there’s Steely McBeam… lol!
Ain’t no spin job in the world good enough to make that fiasco look “cool”. Sooooo much better having a mascot than cheerleaders.
    lol!

  11. So Pittsburgh fans should focus on the Pirates instead of the two teams that caused parades down the Avenue of Champions last year?(Makes sense LOL wut?)… (what a thrilling ride by both teams dont you think?)I for one like to have a glass half full approach to life, while I see that you like to take the glass is half-empty approach.
Plus I’m not really a big fan of baseball considering there is no salary cap, the steroid era, and I prefer watching contact sports as opposed to grown men standing around scratching themselves. I really only watch the world series, baseball is like watching paint dry.

Baloney… if the Pyrites were any good, you and every other Zittsburgh homer would be watching them and homering them up.
But because they suck and they aren’t even trying to get any better, you try to ignore them altogether and when you can’t, you make a bunch of excuses for them.
Other small market MLB teams have be successful. Tampa, Minnesota, Oakland, Florida, Colorado… just to name a few. But they at least TRY to win. The Pyrites (and their AL mirror team, the Royals) only try to make as much money as they can. They take all that luxury tax money they get from the big market clubs and (instead of using it for player salaries) the ownership pockets the money and cuts payroll instead.
(Tell me, how many September call ups did the Pyrites have this year?)
Very rich people own all the teams. They can well afford to spend the money on salaries. Trouble is, they know that will probably mean less profits for them so some of them won’t spend.
And only the true suckers like diehard, blind Pirate (and Royals) fans buy into all the BS the team’s brass tell the fans.
It’s no wonder most Zittsburgh fans act as though their city has no baseball team at all.
In a way, they don’t. Zittsburgh could never beat a team like the NY Yankees. For that matter, I’ll bet if the Pyrites played the Scranton Wilkes-Barre Yankees, they’d lose.
    lol!

  13. I bet those Orioles would lose to them too. When a city wins a major pro sports title in more than one sport in the same year, it’s pretty common for it to be called City of Champions. Everyone knows the ownership for the Pirates is horrible, but the support for the Pirates is nearly equal to the Orioles who have a worse record than the Pirates do this year. Your argument is useless steeler-hater. Your spelling is impeccable though, keep it up.
