Jets weren’t deterred by potential suspension of Edwards

In the whirlwind of nuggets and analysis in the wake of the signing of receiver Michael Crabtree and the trade of receiver Braylon Edwards from the Browns to the Jets, here’s a great point that has gotten lost in the shuffle so far.

Edwards still faces a potential suspension for punching in the face the Steve Urkel who hangs out with LeBron James.

The Jets are smart enough to know that the issue won’t evaporate simply because Edwards has been traded, and we’ve heard some rumblings from our network of sources suggesting that there is a substantial degree of merit to Edward Givens’ claim that Braylon Edwards punched him in the face.

Our guess is that the Jets have assumed that the matter won’t trigger a suspension in 2009, and that the Jets have accepted the fact that they might have to deal with the situation in 2010.

But that’s a long way off -- and Edwards might not even be playing for the Jets if/when a suspension is ever imposed.
