Tyree catches on with Ravens

Receiver David Tyree, a hero of Super Bowl XLII who was unceremoniously dumped by the Giants roughly 20 months after giving the football-watching world one of the most thrilling and memorable highlights of all time, has agreed to terms with the Ravens.

Per Adam Schefter of ESPN, Tyree cut short his visit with the Bucs to sign with Baltimore.

He’s expected to sign a contract later today.

We wonder whether he’ll hold the pen against his head while he signs the document.

Tyree was cut by the Giants before the season, and he has generated scattered interest.

  1. Damn it!!! Now the Vikings have to work on defending “helmet catches” this week. Chilly will be pissed!

  2. “Receiver David Tyree, a hero of Super Bowl XLII who was unceremoniously dumped by the Giants roughly 20 months after…”
The Giants kept Tyree for that 20 month period despite him being able to play in one preseason game in all of 2008 and appearing in 2 preseason games in 2009 (with no stats accumulated). That’s quite a few NFL paydays in return for his past service and that great catch, but bad in this cut-throat NFL world.
PFT- telling half of the story and with great bias since the day it began….

  3. “unceremoniously ” God your an idiot.
Tyree was given every chance to make the team after a year ending injury the previous year. The team depth at WR, which is now becoming obvious, was just too much and the Gmen had made moves to replace him during his injury on the Special Teams unit also.
David – the Gmen fans love what you did and which you were still here, but the team needed to move on. You know that and you know it was NOT ‘unceremoniously”.

…and we all wonder if you flush after writing every article.
Florio, I know as a lawyer its not in your nature but could you at least TRY and stay focused on the facts?!?! There are some out here that hope to see something resembling reality when we drill into your headlines.

Try not to call someone an idiot if you can’t even get your conjunctions right.
    Your = shows ownership.
    You’re = You are = “You’re an idiot.”
    …You’re an idiot. Shut up.

  6. “We wonder whether he’ll hold the pen against his head while he signs the document”
    Dumbest comment ever…..

  7. David- thanks for the best sports memory of my life. You will forever be etched in Giants lore. Best of luck in Balti.

  8. “We wonder whether he’ll hold the pen against his head while he signs the document.”
Maybe…but I tend to wonder whether Rodney Harrison’s gonna try to rip it out of his hands while he signs the document.

  9. Yeah, they giants left him high and dry, dumped him. How many players stay on a roster making money without appearing in any games since the SB and not even playing in most of the preseason games. He was an excellent special teams player for the giants and made a pro bowl because of it, his special teams play has fallen off and the giants have enough depth at WR. It’s how the NFL works. no one was uncermeoniously dumped. Funny, depth at WR after all summer the giants were being bashed for having the worst recieving core in NFL history.

  10. I’m just glad Florio didn’t call it the “Shawshank Reception” again. That really was a stupid nickname he tried to create. It had nothing to do with the play.

REAL MEN OF GENIUS….today we salute you mister snappy one-liner football blog writer….you successfully take legendary moments in sports and condense them into sarcastic snippets, placing them every so strategically on your blog….is that a Super Bowl reference you just made?? Yes…but you were talking about a player signing a new contract…it’s not really related to football…but we don’t care….you just made milk come out of my nose.
Kudos mister snappy one-liner football blog writer.

  12. Thanks, David! Good luck with Ravens.
I’d say that the lack of ceremony applied to Toomer. G-Men should retire his number.
Remember that great catch that beat Denver?

  13. Tyree had his 15 minutes of fame. He was lucky one time, at the right place, at the right time.
He should be in the CFL or bagging groceries or something.
I would keep Clayton or even have kept Yamon Figurs over this stiff.

  14. Hopefully he can help on special teams. He was mainly a ST teams player with the Giants wasn’t he?
