Chiefs demote wide receivers coach

The Chiefs have fired demoted wide receivers coach Dedric Ward.

The move comes six weeks after Kansas City handed offensive coordinator Chan Gailey a pink slip.

Ward’s replacement will be Richie Anderson, a former running back for the Jets. Ward remains on staff, but in what capacity is unclear.

Head coach Todd Haley refused to comment on the maneuver Wednesday, but had expressed discontent with the Chiefs’ wideouts throughout training camp. No. 1 receiver Dwayne Bowe was even benched at one point.

Haley, a former receivers coach himself, has played musical chairs at the position into the season. Mark Bradley and Bobby Wade, who signed off the street on the Monday after Week One, have been shuttled in and out of the starting lineup. According to the Chiefs’ website depth chart, Bobby Engram is a third-stringer.
