Last week, Adam Schefter of ESPN reported that Dave Checketts might fill the spot created by the removal of Rush Limbaugh from the group attempting to purchase the Rams with former Rams running back Marshall Faulk.
According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Faulk says he hasn’t been contacted yet, but that he’d be interested.
“I don’t have any involvement as of today,’' Faulk said Sunday on NFL Network’s NFL GameDay Morning. “I have not been contacted by Dave Checketts’ group. I have not talked to Dave Checketts at all about this. . . .
“I would love to be a part owner. . . . That would be a great honor, but I haven’t talked to them at all.’'
Checketts’ bid is one of reportedly three proposals made by groups who would keep the team in St. Louis. Curent ownership is careful to point out that no decision has been made to sell a controlling stake in the team.
A sixty-percent share of the Rams currently is owned by the two adult children of the late Georgia Frontiere, Chip Rosenbloom and Lucia Rodriguez. Stan Kroenke owns the other 40 percent.
Kroenke reportedly is interested in buying the rest of the team, but he would need a waiver of the league’s cross-ownership rules. Kroenke owns the Denver Nuggets of the NBA and the Colorado Avalance of the NHL. Currently, owners may hold teams in other sports leagues only if all teams reside in the same market.
