Whitner, Williams out for Bills

The Buffalo Bills will be without two defensive starters Sunday when they take on the Houston Texans.

Starting safety Donte Whitner and starting defensive tackle Kyle Williams have both been ruled out, the team announced today, joining quarterback Trent Edwards (concussion), fullback Corey McIntyre (knee), tight end Shawn Nelson (migraines) and right tackle Jonathan Scott (ankle) as players who won’t be able to go for the Bills.

It’s particularly disappointing for the Bills that Whitner hasn’t been able to stay healthy this season. He missed weeks 4 and 5 because of thumb surgery and then suffered a bone bruise in his ankle in Week 6 that will now keep him out for the second straight week.

The Bills’ other starting safety, Bryan Scott, is doubtful, and so George Wilson and Jairus Byrd are expected to start for at safety for Buffalo.

Bills cornerback Terrence McGee and defensive end Chris Kelsay are listed as probable for Sunday.

Beautiful MDS…glad to have you back. Thats fun to say out loud.

  2. I’ll tell you what Dick Jauron gets a bum wrap. He gets the most out of his players that is for damn sure. What the Bills need to do is get a REAL gm to work aside Brandon and Overdorm and let that GM pick the Offensive Coardinator next season and give him complete control over all offensive matters. I mean this team has the talent, Lynch, Jackson, Evans, Nelson, Wood, Levitre to be a good O. The D is lights out this year. They may need more depth at d-line and LB for sure, but their secondary is tops in the league right now. Terrance McGee is the most underated defender in the league, and the Jarious Byrd/George Wilson combo is the best in the league right now. 6 picks in the last two games between them and 8 on the season.

  3. The bills keep losing players. They are already short a starting QB, OLB, SS, FS, and a few O-lineman…
Many outside of Buffalo dont even know who he is, but Willaims has been playing like a Beast this year.

  4. I would be very happy if these were the only players that the Bills will not have. However, in addition to everyone mentioned in this article, the Bills will not have starting RT Brad Butler, starting TE Derek Schouman, starting CB/KR Leodis McKelvin, starting OLB Kawicka Mitchell, backup MLB John DiGiorgio and backup LB Marcus Buggs, who are all gone for the year to IR.

  5. The Bills are terribly thin at OL, TE, QB, DL, LB….essentially 80% of the roster. Yes, they were unlucky to have so many guys go on IR, but they were way too short-sighted to not load up on capable backups.
The Bills need to stop insisting that special teams are 1/3rd of the game, and instead bring in some players that can actually perform at their primary positions.
Williams has been a beast this year, hopefully he’s back after the bye. I’m still anxious to see Whitner and Byrd starting together at the safety positions.
