Browns could be targeting Rocky Boiman

With linebacker Eric Barton placed on injured reserve and no player signed to take his place, the Browns could be planning to fill Barton’s spot with veteran linebacker Rocky Boiman.

Per a league source, Boiman worked out for the Browns on Tuesday.

Boiman, a seven-year veteran, most recently played for the Chiefs in 2008.  He signed with the Titans in August, but he was cut in September.

  1. Sure. Rocky Boiman is just the player to turn the franchise around. Maybe if his pen slips while signing his contract, jabs Eric Mangini in the eye, requiring emegency surgery, that results in a staph infection, causing him to step down from his position. But browns fans aren’t that lucky.

Well this bud is for you real man of genius! Please tell us how many starting linebackers are working at used car lots right now. The Browns have to fill a roster spot. In addition I have to hand it to you for thinking up that staph infection bit. Very funny! Oh yea and original.

  3. Boiman could do nothing but help, I’m a Chiefs fan and he came in last year and played very well, I was shocked they didn’t keep him here in KC. That being said, Dick Butkus couldn’t save the Browns this year….or the Chiefs

  4. Well played.

Ok, but when did this guy play for the jets?
    Good one!

  6. The Browns promoted undrafted rookie linebacker Marcus Benard to the 53 man active roster right before they put Barton on the injured reserve list. Benard recorded 25 sacks in two years of college action.
I posted this on an earlier post today about Baton because the “send scoop” link doesn’t seem work for me. But hey, I’m just stoked that I can finally sign into PFT 🙂

  7. An injury prone backup, sounds like a Mangini hire. Please get rid of this guy, no one wants to play for him.

  8. You geniuses are all right- if the Browns need help at LB, they shouldn’t show their stupidity by wasting their time on players like Boiman. After all, they could go out and get- uh… um… oh yeah, there AREN’T any “stud” linebackers available… so SHUT UP. Go to NFL.com and take a look at available LBs. The list is not gonna impress anyone.
I swear to god, it’s so “in vogue” to trash the Browns right now that if the team was asked to pick between a dirty sock and another dirty sock, people here would be all over them for picking the dirty sock. Get a freaking life already.
