Report: Porter deactivated for not going home

It remains to be seen if Dolphins linebacker Joey Porter becomes “a T.O.” for coach Tony Sparano, but the team will welcome Porter back to practice Monday.

The team won’t reveal the reason for Porter’s deactivation publicly, but NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora reports that Porter’s off-field habits last week were the cause.

Porter reportedly was nursing an injury and feeling under the weather, so he was excused to go home from the facility early.  Except that he didn’t go home, and the team learned Porter went “elsewhere.”

For now, both sides appear to be putting the incident in the past.  The Dolphins face Carolina in three short days in a battle of former 0-3 teams trying to climb back to .500.

The team’s pass rush hardly missed Porter, so it will be interesting to watch if he gets his usual amount of snaps Thursday.

  1. Want details on TO high-fiving fans or friends after the Titans got a pick-six against the Bills.

  2. Just because you’re under the weather, doesn’t mean you can’t make it rain. Porter better be careful, Parcells will cut him just to see the look on his face. I hope he does.

    “elsewhere” = Dominoes Tournament

  4. Just where did Porter go ? A real reporter would be all over that. Anybody know ? Maybe he was at that bar with Manny Ramirez ? Inquiring minds want to know.

  5. probably to a “scrip” club.
the dolphins D was better without porter anyway. he needs to stay off the field until he can heal a bit more – he has been invisible since his injury.

He had the same stat line two weeks in a row.

  7. Perhaps he received a text message from one of his boys, that Levi Jones was in the area. He decided that he wasnt feeling well (to give him a way to leave the facility and jump him again), and was allowed to leave the facility. Maybe there is some 7-11 surveillance footage of Porter and his boys jumping Jones while he was pumping gas…….

  8. “It was (Dolphin) defense’s best pass rushing performance since the Saints loss, where the Dolphins produced five sacks, and the second time the unit has consistently rotated its players all game since the six-sack performance in the Oct. 4 win over Buffalo. That happens to be the other game Porter was sidelined”
    Coincidence?

  9. @Bill Cowher’s Chin … Good grief, you again. And so sadly predictable. If you were a Bengals fan, you’d be too busy celebrating for this silliness. So, poor baby, what did those nasty Steelers do to cause your fixation?
@Gregg … Okay, I’m with Hap–where’d he go? Strip club? Bar? Girlfriend’s? McDonald’s? Racetrack? I’m not usually this nosy, but these Dolphins’ teasers are sooo tantalizing.
    “Elsewhere” … hmmm.
