Saints get good news about starting corner

The worst fears regarding Saints cornerback Tracy Porter’s injured knee were not realized.

The second-year starter has been a key to New Orleans’ improved defense this year, and there were reports Sunday indicating that Porter’s ACL may be torn. Instead, he has been diagnosed with a sprained MCL.

The Saints didn’t say when Porter would return, but the usual timetable for such an injury would allow him to play again before the end of the regular season.

It’s welcome injury news for a team that was without three of its four starting members of the secondary late in Sunday’s close win over the Rams. Safety Darren Sharper and cornerback Jabari Greer missed the game.
