Ladell Betts has torn MCL

The Redskins lost a game 7-6 to the Cowboys on Sunday afternoon and they also lost tailback Ladell Betts.

Betts left the game with an injury to his left knee on the team’s second possession, and coach Jim Zorn told reporters after the game that the running back tore his MCL. Rock Cartwright and Quinton Ganther carried the load the rest of the way, but the team may be in the market for another tailback this week.

Why? Because Zorn also told Rick Maese of the Washington Post that Clinton Portis won’t play next week against the Eagles because of his concussion. He isn’t a candidate for injured reserve yet, according to Zorn, but offensive coordinator Sherman Lewis did mention bringing back Marcus Mason to help the team out.

The injury news doesn’t end there for the Skins. Offensive lineman Chad Rinehart broke his fibula during the loss. If you think it all sounds very bleak, you’re not the only one.

“It is bleak,” Zorn said. “Being 3-7 is bleak.”
