LenDale White benched for being late to practice

While one half of the duo formerly known as “Smash and Dash” smashes NFL records, LenDale White wasn’t even allowed to play Sunday.

White was a surprise inactive, and now we know why.  Jim Wyatt of the Nashville Tennessean reports that Chris Johnson’s backup was late for Saturday’s walk-through practice.

After the game, coach Jeff Fisher called the benching a “coach’s decision.” White didn’t talk either: “I don’t know. You’ll have to ask Jeff. Ask Jeff,” White said.

The Titans didn’t miss White.  Johnson gained 186 yards from scrimmage, while Javon Ringer replaced White and gained a yard on his only carry.

Johnson’s emergence as one of the best players in football has rendered LenDale as frivolous as a tequila diet.

White has only 61 carries after topping 200 carries the last two years.

  1. So what’s the explanation for him not appearing in all the games prior to this Sunday?? Talk about a fantasy bust…

  2. Come on, LenDale has a place on this team. He’s a good bruising back with the ability to break long runs. It’s just that the current design of the offense is more about creating space than the traditional pound it up the middle approach, leaving his role diminished. But there’s always a need for a back like this. It’s not frivolous having him. It’s depth.

  3. LenDale is another classic example of why rookie contracts should have a ceiling.
Someone needs to tune him up, he runs with lacadasical effort and amost zero vision.

  4. Chris Johnson is amazing fast, and has amazing talent. But you can be sure the Titans are extremely happy they have White on their roster as well. An injury can happen on any play, then we’ll see how frivolous having Lendale is.
You can never too many capable backs on your offense, and give Lendale the game reps to get in a flow and he’ll turn heads again.
That “tequilla diet” quip is topical, and funny, though incredibly short sighted for a football writer.
