Aaron Curry, Steven Jackson in war of words

Seattle Seahawks linebacker Aaron Curry went on Twitter Tuesday to share one of his favorite pieces of advice.

“A wise man always told me don’t argue wit fools,” Curry wrote, “cuz from a distance people can tell who is who. --Jay Z.”

Curry didn’t say whether he was thinking of any specific “fool” when he tweeted, but Mike Sando of ESPN helpfully explains that the fool Curry referred to was St. Louis Rams running back Steven Jackson.

Jackson had gone on the radio a day earlier and ripped Curry, saying that Curry takes cheap shots and didn’t conduct himself properly in Sunday’s Seahawks-Rams game.

“Some guys don’t know how to be pros and I feel he has not learned that yet,” Jackson said of Curry on 101 ESPN St. Louis. “Someone is over there not teaching him what it means to be a pro. It’s all right to jaw jack but unnecessary hits and taking shots at guys that are defenseless, or going after guys because they are high-profile guys and he is trying to make a name for himself, it’s not professional.”

Jackson thinks Curry tried to hurt him with dirty play during the game, and Jackson said he told Curry personally that he wasn’t going to stand for it.

“You don’t get your name based on that because you’re going after another high-profile guy,” Jackson said. “You get your name and your status because of your work and your play in it. I’m just sitting there jaw-jacking a guy and letting him know that I’m not backing down. It’s obvious I’m injured, it’s obvious that I haven’t practiced all week and if we want to go head-to-head for 60 or 70 plays in a row, I’m willing to do so. I’m not going to back down.”

Jackson said he thinks Curry ought to watch veteran players who conduct themselves the right way on the field. Like, say, Jackson himself.

“I’m a pro about it,” Jackson said. “I would hope that he learns that.”

Jackson went on and on about his dislike for Curry, but so far, Curry’s response has been limited to 140 characters.
