Tate leaving the Golden Dome, too

In a move that won’t be regarded as much of a surprise, Notre Dame receiver Golden Tate is joining Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen and heading to the NFL.

Adam Schefter reports that Tate will be entering the 2010 draft.

It makes sense, for several reasons. First, with the current system for paying rookies potentially changing, many underclassmen are expected to bail on remaining eligibility.

Second, with a new coach coming to town and 2010 likely to be a season of transition, the stock of these two players might not get any higher.

Third, and as we’ve said many times in the past, a guy who is eligible and able to play in the NFL should go get paid when he can. Otherwise, the player is playing for the financial security and well-being not of himself, but of his coach.
