Cutler’s body language not inspiring confidence

Through much of his disappointing 2009 season, fans and members of the media have noticed that Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler sends the wrong messages with his body language and demeanor.

Former NFL quarterback Boomer Esiason says he thinks Cutler’s teammates are noticing, too.

“He’s had a terrible year, his body language stinks, his decision making stinks,” Esiason said today on WSCR in Chicago, per the Chicago Tribune. “He makes a bad play, you can see it in his face, you can see it in his body language.”

Esiason said that it’s essential for a quarterback to send the right signals because other players take their cues from the quarterback.

“The quarterback’s No. 1 job for any football team is to inspire confidence in his teammates, to make them believers,” Esiason said. “Somehow they have got to get his confidence back.”

And until Cutler does get his confidence back, Brian Urlacher won’t be the only Bear who questions whether the team made the right move when it acquired Cutler.
