Ragnar better watch his back

A $30,000 fine is not going to discourage Chad Ochocinco from telegraphing his next prop celebration.

For the Bengals receiver’s next act, he plans to swipe the horn of “Ragnar” the Viking — the mascot in Minnesota.

Ochocinco first brought up the idea Tuesday night in a tweet to Adam Schefter, then mentioned it again in his conference call with Minnesota reporters.

I’m going to have some purple fun. I’m going to steal [the horn] from what’s his name? Ragnar. . . . [Ragnar] better give it to me or I’m going to MMA him. Why you laughing? I’m serious. I’m dead serious,” Ochocinco said, as transcribed by Chip Scoggins of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.

Purple fun could include Ragnar’s motorcycle, which Ochocinco says he may try to ride despite not having a license.

“Maybe they can include that in the fine.”

We suspect Ochocinco won’t get his hands on any Ragnar props, but his disregard for the NFL’s policies presents a problem for the league and its fine system. Mike Florio will address the issue later Wednesday in a PFTV segment.

In the meantime, we’ll wonder if OCNN unwittingly broke more news Wednesday.

Ochocinco was upset that he couldn’t face cornerback Antoine Winfield this week, who he called the most “complete corner” in football.

Winfield’s status for Sunday is supposed to be up in the air.

  1. Will be interesting to see how the Vikings play against real competition down the stretch considering the first half of the year was a pushover and Favre historically implodes this time of year.

  2. Yes, but what will he do for his 3rd and 4th TD celebration against that weak viking secondary?

  3. Chad’s hilarious. I love that he’s constantly bucking the NFL and their ridiculous no fun policies. He’s good for the game.

  4. Chad, come on dude. Do you know what all this money you’re wasting could do for needy families this time if year? I’ve seen every one of your TD celebrations and they’re not even funny anymore. How about a new dance? How about you do 10 seconds of the Thriller dance after every TD and see if you can do the entire dance through the course of one season? That’s a lot of TDs and $0 in fines. Donate $30,000 to the salvation army and everyone wins.
That’s what I’d say to Chad if he were listening.

  5. ====”We suspect Ochocinco won’t get his hands on any Ragnar props, but his disregard for the NFL’s policies presents a problem for the league and its fine system”====
Please. Stop being such f@gs. It wasn’t enough that you became shills for NBC? Now you want to be shills for the NFL and that corporate stooge Roger Goodell?

  6. Maybe someone needs to knock some sense into you silky. “Ray Ray” likely cost his team a crucial early season game when he “knocked some sense” into Chad. Also, I’ve seen him get up from worse this season, someone is gonna have to catch him completely off guard to hurt him like so many here would liek to see, he’s a tougher Chad than you’ve become accustomed to.
I hope the passing game is firing correctly this sunday and Chad gets to perform his latest. Bengals need a complete effort to hand two in a row to a good team at home, they can do it though.

  7. I don’t think Ochocinco really likes to celebrate in crazy ways anymore. I think, mostly, he does it because he created this character that everyone expects. His sombrero and poncho, notwithstanding its lameness, seemed half-hearted. He didn’t seem to enjoy that as much as the riverdance or the note to the NFL to not be fined. I think he’s a self-perpetuating machine that feels the need to keep his act going for the sake of those who latched on and want to see the act keep going. It’s okay Chad HachiGo (the Japanese name he’s going to change to next year, apparently), us Bengals fans will still enjoy your prowess on the football field long after the gimmicks stop. You can stop any time you want.

  8. If he wants to spend his money on fines, more power to him. He gets people to watch the game, just to see what he is going to do next, not to mention the money goes to charity!
He needs to come up with something else though, especially since he will get 0 TD’s on Sunday……

  9. biggest concern is winfield being out. Palmer is a much tougher QB than the wussies we’ve shut down so far (rodgers, cuntler) and the bengals actually have recievers that count for something unlike the rest, plus they’ve clearly got a much better defense than the wussies of the midway and the silly nannies of GB. This could be an incredibly tough game without Winfiend and Henderson. Plus, its not like pat is playing as good as he was 2 years ago, the guy is still a beast, but he needs more often rotation and without Hendersen to pick up the evens/kennedy slack, should it happen, they might be able to acheive some balance on offense.
great teams can win with injuries to their starters, but The vikes are going to have a short january without winfield, if ocho agrees that the dude is the most complete corner in the league, how in the hell can we replace him? get well soon winfield, we’ve gotta get you back on the field.

  10. Well, Stinko’s had his one good game, which means another two or three before he catches a touchdown.
I think Cincinnati matches up very poorly with Minnesota. It could be a LONG day for Stanky.

  11. You have as good as chance of stealing Ragnars horn as you do winning Ocho…none! Best concentrate on trying to not get blown up by an angry Viking team. You won’t be tigers Sunday. Will be lambs to the slaughter. The Pack D is # 1 by the way,not you. Seen what we did to them?

  12. I love this and seriously hope something goes down in the end zone with Ragnar, makes for some fun TV and adds a little life to the NoFunLeague. He can really afford the fines, why not have some fun in the process? Better than someone getting hurt and the person inflecting the pain getting fined.

  13. I’m a Vikings fan first, so I hope Ochocinco stays far, far away from the end zone.
But since I’m watching the game, he may as well make the celebration be a good one, if it comes down to that. The poncho and sombrero didn’t do much for me.
Just so we’re all clear, he got a $30k fine, four times what the league levies for dangerous blows to the head, because he said he was going to do something silly and did so after a touchdown. The game wasn’t delayed, children’s minds weren’t warped, and nobody got hurt.

  14. Oh and Bob, do you at all know how to make a comment on this site without a Vikings bash in there somewhere? You’re pathetic.

  15. the money goes to charity right ? if Chad’s willing to donate money to charity while entertaining us, I don’t see any problem lol

  16. He doesn’t care about the fine system as he pointed out earlier in the year because the money from fines goes to charity. This is the same guy while visiting Jack London Square bought dinner for about 30 people during the Bengals recent trip to Oakland.

  17. Good for Chad – he knows the rules, pays the fines and serves his consequences.
Didn’t he tell the Commisioner a few years ago that he has a savings account already to pay fines for celebrations? He still produces and isn’t doing anything illegal – just silly, fun stuff.
    Good for him!!!

  18. Does anyone else think it’s ridiculous that Tommie Harris gets fined 5K for cold-cock punch and Ocho gets 30K for wearing a sombrero? 20K for walking around with a 1-dollar bill.
I like how Goodell is cleaning things up and forcing intense attention on concussions, but he really pisses me off with the fines for 85. Chad brings money into the game, how much money do his interviews bring into NFL Network on a weekly basis?
We have so many misfits and slobs in the NFL. Chad doesn’t do anything wrong off the field, he is a productive member of society, he completely abstains from drinking, and he’s talented.
I give him props for continuing to just take these huge fines and stick it to Goodell. I’m a Vikes fan and I hope he scores this weekend. If he steals the motorcycle it would be as good as when he gave cpr to the ball then left it for dead.

Agree 100%! His river-dance celebration was the best! And the fact that he set aside a “fine fund” for this year is even more hilarious. The more the NFL tries to squash him, the more they sound like that angry old man neighbor that we all had growing up. Get over it guys, he’s an asset to the NFL and his antics are usually harmless and funny.

  20. I think the fine was so steep because it was a repeat offense. I don’t think you get fined that heavily for doing that the first time.
Also, about GB being the #1 defense, a lot of the numbers mislead, just like in the Bengals case. Green Bay was giving up a lot of sacks and they had a lot of drives that stalled out early, thus giving the other team less yards to drive for a score. Thus, their yardage is down, while their points are up, putting them at the 8th ranked points allowed defense. Meanwhile, Cincinnati’s defense is helped by the ball control offense which gives the other team less opportunity for yards or points. Cincy gives up yards, but usually tightens up in the red zone, mostly due to teams not being able to exploit their safeties deep and being able to stop the run. Thus, Cincinnati gets the number one scoring defense but #4 in yards.
Not to say both defenses aren’t really good, they’re just not impenetrable like their rankings suggest. I wouldn’t be too concerned, as a Cincy fan, that their defense is any worse than the others the Vikings have faced. I’m more worried that the offense won’t protect Palmer enough to exploit the Vikings weak secondary.
But then, that’s why they play the games and not the analysts.

  21. As usual the “problem” is the NFL’s absurd jackboot policies. WTF is their hangup?
The real problem is that the league doesn’t have enough of these merry pranksters. Seriously. Why so uptight? Paging Dr Freud.

  22. Also meant to add…. hey PFT, why dont you do a poll here of serious fans like other sites do?
Seems overwhelming support FOR fun/antics/Chad and disdain for the policies. Then we’ll know the true nature of the “problem”

  23. @ Twiz – He needs to come up with something else though, especially since he will get 0 TD’s on Sunday……
Chad gets 0 TD’s on Sunday….Against that joke of a secondary of yours…Good luck with that my friend!
Oh and Pervy….The packs D ain’t shit…but you’ll see that soon enough. LMAO

Wow. Reading this post is hilarious. Let’s review:
You’ve spelled receivers – RECIEVERS, remember that little rule in second grade? I before E except after C genius
“but he needs more often rotation” I don’t even know where to start with that one. Please go somewhere and atleast get your G.E.D. before you write something that is seen nationally. Or better yet, don’t post if you can’t grasp the English language.

  25. why is he is a douche or whatever people call him for this? you mean to tell me that you didnt laugh when you saw the sombrero? the nfl is so ridiculous for these fines. I can understand the props ON the field, but the sidelines? it is entertaining, and the nfl needs to relax.

  26. Ragnar is not a small dude. I also suspect that 100% Cheese Free (the dude with the horns, painted face, and giant biceps) would love to get an Ochocinco arm or leg to take home as a trophy if Chad gets too close.

  27. On a sidenote, this game features the two biggest characters in the NFL with Chad O. and Jared Allen, though only one is a clown during game time.
BTW — As far as Green Bay having the #1 defense. That’s only based on yardage allowed. It does not factor in defensive penalties (thus a 38 yard pass interference doesn’t count against the stats, but allowing the reciver to catch a 38 yard pass would). I think if total defense factored in yardage allowed plus defensive penalties, the Packers would be out of the top 5.

  28. “Pervey (Kool-Aid) Harvin – The Pack D is # 1 by the way,not you. Seen what we did to them?”
Ahh I dont know how to break this to you there PH-dufus but this isnt the same Packer team your beloved Viqueens faced in week 8, kind of like saying “in 2007 ahhh we hammered the Giants in week 12 so ahh we could of crushed them in the Superbowl if we had been there” right Harvo, your logic is why you are our little b itch up in here!

  29. I’ve met Ragnar before, he was bringing in some scrap metal at a scrap yard I used to work at in Minneapolis. He is the Dean of one of the schools around there.

  30. Pervy put your broken Crystal ball away that you have been borrowing to Jeff. Its not worth a shit. Single or double tapered.

  31. OmegaXxXNFL – Get it right. You are the bitch . Schooled you on ball more than you care to admit. Wow,since week 8 you guys transformed into some magical force? LOL
For once CincyAllDaWay is right. That Pack d isn’t shit. Favre owned it like I do you!
Bob Loblaw – Don’t be talking shit about the only Viking fan that has the balls to stand up and sling shit with these half wit tools from other teams. If we were all peaceful puppets like you,we would be a fan base of door mats. You know of what I speak.

  32. This just in………..
Minnesota has had some trouble with overtly physical teams this season, and the Bengals are street fighters in 2009 (ask Pittsburgh and Baltimore). The Vikings have slipped in terms of their rushing attack offensively and their run defense. Opponents are averaging 4 yards per carry against Minnesota, tied for eighth in the NFL, not quite as lofty as in years past. The Vikings have faced an average of just 21 rushing attempts per game (that’s six carries fewer than the league average), but the Bengals run the ball an average of 34 times per game (second most in the NFL) and will stick with that game plan here. Cincinnati could still land the No. 2 seed in the AFC, while the Vikings remain in great shape to win the NFC North no matter what. I would not be surprised if Minnesota dips in form down the stretch, however, and we’ll have to see how Brett Favre holds up as the games and hits mount.

Yep,I know. Nice name dude! I take it as a compliment. You know you have reached rock star status on a blog site when some one uses your name. Nice tough !

  34. i do not know what is funnier, the thought of chad JOHNSON stealing ragnars horn and motorcycle, or windifield being the most COMPLETE corner in the league…
first of all, i would love to see chad steal that bike because he would prolly crash the thing and get the horn stuck in his mouth, thus making a hillarious squeeking sound every time he tried to talk
and second, winfield is great at diagnosing the run. that is it. he is only slighty above, slightly-above-average when it comes to coverage. and i think that (and am suprised we have not heard discussion) on winfield having the lisfranc injury.
i think that he has something seriously wrong with him and the vikings are trying to keep from looking foolish for giving him a bigtime contract earlier this year.

  35. I think it would be funny as hell and entertaining…I hope he doesn’t get the chance to try, but if he does I say go for it….

  36. I’d like to see him go and hand Favre a fake gold watch for all the times he faked retirement.

  37. I think Ochocinco is very amusing. He’s good for the NFL. Goodell probably realizes this, which is why I’m guessing there were no suspensions or $100k fines.
Chad can do better than stealing the mascot’s horn though….. I have to admit that is rather weak.

  38. Blah blah blah, dude always says hes gonna do this or that…. classic attention seeker. Just go out there and do it.
The fact that he wants all of his “great ideas” to be known is cause he is more doubtful than hopeful he’ll score. You can read the dude psychologically like a text book. Sometimes the most seemingly complex people are actually the simplest.

  39. Cincy is so over rated anyway…lost to HOU, and OAK!! Only beat Clev by 3 & 9, and most recently played in a nail biter with DET….so all you Bungle fans can stop whenever you want….

  40. Perv, did you see what WE did against GB this year? On the Road?
Really, your talking out the side of your neck, if you think Minn is gonna shut Cincy out or anything close you’re high. This should be an entertaining game with a few fun sub plots to boot. Keep smoking though, Mondays hurt when you’ev spent the entire prior week binging on purple kool aid eh?

  41. Hey Omega…..
I guess it’s sort of like….. This isn’t the same Vikings team from 1970, 74, 75, or 77? But I’m sure you’ll say THOSE are the same team…. Since that’s what you do every time you present that pathetic argument “How many trophies do you have?”

  42. I am SO SICK of this attention seeking douche! I don’t get why media people keep enabling him nor why the league doesn’t suspend him for his blatent disregard for rules. Does he really care about 30k, when it gets him more attention? I never wish injuries to players but…

  43. Wow… Without Winfield we are done unless the defensive line steps up its game and destroys Carson Palmer. Benny Sapp is a good part time replacement in game but he is no starter. Karl Paymah, well hes just useless, our safeties are garbage.. Its going to be a long day unless they step up their game. Oh, and the run blocking, well its been terrible. Ugh, its a good team with alot of strong flaws..

Rock star indeed! Too bad it is mainly the pussy Pats and Packers fans who resort to such lame tactics as copying screen names in order to attempt to harass other posters. I agree though…you KNOW that you OWN someone when they do this. LMFAO!!!!!
Good luck to your Vikings, PervyHarvin…they are definitely still one of the elite teams in the NFL this season. I hope that my Niners can catch up to them real soon.

  45. CurseofBo- We won’t shut you out. Our d backs won’t allow that. Winfield out is bib. Bet that Benson don’t see close to 100. Be a good game.Of course, see the Vikes as 11-2 at games end. You walking in to a bad time after we got embarrassed Sunday. Got my bets in! Did you know you guys won the last 8 times you been underdogs?? Not this time!

  46. cmario, you lost to Pitt (2 wins) and BARELY beat Bltmre (2 wins). That’s the same stupid logic that you’re using, it means nothing.
We’ll see how over rated Bengals are Sunday, and I’ll look for ya Monday win or lose, my guess is that you’ll be no where to be found if what I think is going to happen, happens.

  47. @ PervyHarvinsMom;
Can I have my pants back?
Also, learn how to make breakfast, I want some carbs after a hard nights work.
    That’s all. Thanks.

  48. The guy’s harmless and he doesn’t really pull these stunts at any other team’s expense, so who the hell really cares?
Hopefully, the Vike’s D and pass rush comes through this weekend. I’m suprised the Bengals’ D has remained so strong after they lost their best defensive lineman. It sounds like Winfield is out till next week, and Griffin is banged up, so he Chad may have a chance to toot his own horn. Of course, now that the Pack is on it’s way to the Super Bowl again after they’ve beaten a bunch of crappy teams, it probably doesn’t matter what happens this weekend for the Vikes.

  49. JustBornFlorio – Thanks bud. For you as a 49er fan to wish the Vikings luck is a class act hardly seen on PFT. See,you are an intelligent, civil poster and I give a response in the same manner. Too bad I get to do that only twice a week! LOL Good luck to your Niners, they will get it together. Got a solid coach and some star players.

Besides the fact that CAPSLOCK must be broke on your keyboard, you obviously haven’t watched Antoine Winfield play that much. He not only diagnoses the run. He is the most sure tackler in football. Despite giving up size, he takes on all blockers and rarely fails to make a tackle once he reaches the ball carrier. Diagnosing the run doesn’t do much good if he was consistently missing tackles.
As far as pass coverage. He plays with great technique, discipline, and intelligence. He gives up a lot is size, which hurts him, but makes up for it with smart play and fulfilling his assignment (in Cover 2 it’s not to blanket a WR, but to keep the receiver in front and play more of a zone than a man-to-man).
I’m not saying there aren’t better cover corners, but his overall game is as good if not better than anyone else (though Charles Woodson has a legit argument with the season he’s having). That is why Winfield was named to Sports Illustrated’s all decade team yesterday as CB.
And the Vikings aren’t hiding anything with his injury to justify the contract extension. They’ve been cautious with his return because they aren’t desperate for wins. If they thought it was bad enough to shut him down for the season, they would have done it and brought in a street free agent when there were some descent ones on the market. It’s counterproductive to keep an injured player on the 53-man roster, especially if it’s just for PR reasons.

Supersuckers says: “Pervy put your broken Crystal ball away that you have been borrowing to Jeff.”
What is it with people in the upper midwest using the word “borrow” instead of “lend”? I hear it all the time. The person who receives something with the intent of returning it “borrows” it. The person giving it “lends”.
There is no “borrowing to” you either “lend to” or “borrow from”. I can’t even tell is Supersuckers means Pervy is the one receiving or giving the crystal ball. It’s kind of hard to insult someone when you don’t have the basic grasp of correct grammar.

Well personaly I dont have any trophies, so that there is pathetic question but if you ask; my team has 5, yes the Steelers have 5 the same team that beat the viqueens this year. Vikes cant even win one, what a joke!

  60. All these viking fans are idiots CurseofBo, you cant tell them anything, for christ sakes they root for a loser team that cant win a damn thing. They will find out soon who their daddy is, we will be here to serve some crow.

  61. Fines do not work on guys like this. Suspend him. That always works. Especially on prima donna types that need to be in the game for the attention alone.
Short of that, he will continue.

  62. Fun? Fun must be stopped at all costs! Fine him more! Suspend him! Injure him!
All of you people getting so upset over his antics seem pretty idiotic to me. What’s he done to hurt anyone? Would you rather have your teams filled with thuggish felons doling out cheap hits every week, as is increasingly becoming the norm around the league?
He’s far less an egomaniac than an almost childlike presence–albeit that mischievous child sitting in the back of the class. As dreary and joyless as most NFL games are these days, I’d be dying to have a bit of fun, too.

  63. This whole Farve-Vikes-Packers thing has gotten Florio more page views than Terry Bradshaw’s untimely non-death. Who cares about Ochocinco or Ragnar? Nobody. Anything on the internets about the Vikes or Packers will end up posted here pdq.
    “This stuff is GOLD, Jerry,GOLD!”

  64. Just look at the comments Chad has created. Its more buzz about what should turn out to be a great game.
    Shinsnake,
I agree with your first post about Chad creating a machine he no longer controls however, if I may add one additional note- Marvin does NOT want his antics this year to become a distraction a la 05. Chad tacitly agrees I think. But as you said, he cant just stop now. he has a fan base to please. Alhough I completely look forward to every touchdown he gets for the entertainment, I understand where Marvin comes from.
Keep celebrating Chad, dont over-do it, dont be a distraction, and just keep winning baby!

  65. Omega – what’s a matter?Got to hang in a Viking thread now? Now that the great Steelers that scummed out a win vs. the Vikings are right up there with empty Browns and Bills threads?? LOL You are irrelevant, the Bengals owned you! As did the Raiders, etc…
Curse- If Benson can run wild on the Vikes,I will streak at the local mall. Now,if he runs 35 times,100 don’t count for much. I say he gets 22 carries for 70 yards. You will have to pass to have a chance. Are you aware of our red zone run D? Sort of a big deal you know! I rushing red zone td vs us all year.

  66. 100 yards is 100 yards, if he touches the ball 35 times for 110, that will be indicative of the Bengals suffocating the Vikes, so it will mean more than nothing. What’s the yardage he has to hit so you make the news in Minn/St, Paul? 115?
I’m not saying the guy will bust out for 150, but don’t think that he won’t be a major factor. My guess is that he touches twenty five times coems close to 100 or right around it and LJ has about five touches as well.

  67. @ Omega- Can’t win a damn thing? What is our record? Who’s going to win the north?
Anyone who doesn’t like Ochocinco’s celebrations must live a boring life, and it is because of people like them that the NFL is forced into the NOFUNLEAGUE.

  68. Ragnar/Joe Juranitch should run back to his job sitting in a one man shed watching over the student parking lot at Minnetonka High School.
Cut Boob Nelson a break. Wouldn’t all of us be bitter if we were as dumb and ignorant as he?
Boob, I hope your bedroom in your mother’s basement isn’t too cold with this weather.

  69. Fagnar’s not used to watching his back.. He’s used to watching OTHER people’s backs.. If you not what I mean.

    —————————–
Which mall is that? Jeff wants to know where and when.

  71. HAHAHA ADAM! Doubt it,jeff and I don’t roll like that. Don’t need no 35 carries though, that would be freakin ball control! They will abandon the run like all teams and play air ball.
Curse- Chilly has a plan for you guys….stay tuned for further details!

Well personaly I dont have any trophies, so that there is pathetic question but if you ask; my team has 5, yes the Steelers have 5 the same team that beat the viqueens this year. Vikes cant even win one, what a joke!
    __________
Big fan of the Steelers, and you are saying the Steelers have 5 SB trophies?

There is the oh so intelligent ramblings of Adam.
Man, for a guy claiming a lack of intelligence of other posters, this is the best you can come up with?
    Middle school insults? Uff!
Gay jokes and mailing shit to people is the height of intelligence to you I guess.
    What a idiot you are.
Everyone laughs at you Adam, and not in a good way.

  74. Nice Post’s Pervy and Jeff:
By the way, YEAH ADAM you idiot, LOL
    Vikings are gonna roll now
They were knocked in the head, now they wake up.
I don’t think we could have asked for a better situation coming for the Vikes!
Little reality check, at the right time of the year, now its go time.
As far as the Packers, who cares?
They are scrounging to get in the playoffs, and you guys say things like the Vikes should be worried, please.
There are three teams for the Vikes to focus on and be ready for in the playoffs, and the Fudgies are not one of them, take that to the bank!
Go on a packer article and spew your fantasy dreams.
By the way Pawlenty doing a little pushing about the new stadium, everybody email him and Margaret Kelliher let them know how you feel, its working, have faith, dont quit.

Sometimes you need to do research to put people to shame. And sometimes idiots just come right out and prove their own worth.
    What a ass you are.

  76. Shitterson:
You have diarrhea of the mouth and constipation of the brain.
It can’t be put any plainer than that.
Research things that can be twisted another way to make your point moot? Total waste of time, but hey, have at it!
You ever wonder what your life would have been like if you were to have got enough oxygen at birth?

  77. Adam, I’ll speak in terms that you will understand:
*99 of every 100 posts you make are idiotic.
*83% of Packer fans even know you are complete moron
*.001% of your brain is currently working.
*Your credibility rating is a PFT record low- 39.6 (if you want to know the formula, I’ll be happy to provide it.)
How’s that for some stats bud…
