Rams place Atogwe on injured reserve

On Monday we noted that St. Louis Rams safety Oshiomogho Atogwe could be done for the season as a result of a shoulder injury.

Today it became official: The Rams have placed Atogwe on injured reserve.

Atogwe was one of the few Rams having a good season, with 84 tackles, two interceptions, three passes defensed, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. When he misses Sunday’s game, it will break a streak of 60 straight starts. Atogwe, who also devotes a great deal of his time to volunteer work, played this season on the one-year contract he signed after being designated the team’s franchise player.

The Rams also waived linebacker Dominic Douglas, signed quarterback Mike Reilly from the Packers’ practice squad and signed free agent safety Clinton Hart.

  1. Possible attempt to protect a player they want healthy enough to have trade value? They could tag him again and trade him, but not if he blows an acl in the last couple games. Then they will get nothing for him and he’ll still end up playing for another team when he recovers.

  2. Let’s sum up…
    Ronnie Brown – IR
    Clinton Portis – IR
    Atogwe – IR
    Barton – IR
    Bob Sanders – IR
    Owen Daniels – IR
    Bowe – Suspended
    DeSean – maybe out
    Joe Flacco – NOT delivering!
    Jay Cutler – Ditto
Great time for playoffs in Fantasy Football… I’m in a 16 man keeper and last week had to START Tashard Choice at flex… So much for those trophy hopes…

  3. It will be interesting to see if the Rams use the franchise tag again on Atogwe if the two sides don’t reach a new deal between now and the deadline for application of the tag.
