Denver Broncos wide receiver Brandon Marshall paid tribute to the late Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chris Henry today by taking the field for pre-game warm-ups wearing the last name “Henry” on the back of his jersey.
Marshall, who like Henry wears No. 15, had his own name on the back of his jersey by the time the Broncos’ game against the Oakland Raiders started.
But the move (visual evidence here) may still result in Marshall being fined. Before he legally changed his last name to Ochocinco, the Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver then named Chad Johnson was fined $5,000 for wearing an “Ocho Cinco” name plate on the back of his jersey during warm-ups before a 2006 game.
If Marshall is fined, it could set up a showdown between the NFL and the NFL Players Association. The union had previously promised to pay any fine imposed on Ochocinco when Ochocinco said he wanted to wear No. 15 in honor of Henry. Ochocinco later changed his mind and wore his regular 85 jersey, but Marshall’s move could cause the league and the union to butt heads.
