Nick Folk not long for Dallas

When Cowboys kicker Nick Folk clanked off the upright a 24-yard field goal attempt that would have given Dallas a 10-point lead with 2:10 to play against the Saints on Saturday night, Folk’s job instantly slid into jeopardy — especially since the team already was toying with the idea of giving him a Water Pik, and a pink slip, for Christmas.

Ed Werder of ESPN reports that Folk’s miss has renewed concerns that he’s suffering from a mental block, and that it could result in the Cowboys making a change.

But instead of cutting Folk, the team might put him on injured reserve, relying on hip surgery that Folks had in the offseason.  Per Werder, the team believes he might be effective again in the future.

Of course, if he’s not actually injured, a decision to place him on injured reserve would constitute the stashing of a player.  But if Folk opts to play along in the hopes of getting his job back in 2010, there likely would be no one complaining.

Especially since no other team will be interested in a guy who can’t make a clutch kick from less than 30 yards out.

  1. I would take either Grammatica brother over this a-hole. Even the tool that shredded his knee celebrating a field goal.

  2. Oh, and get some friggin’ balls, Wade. Just cut him. He could have cost you the game last night, and has cost you games this year.

  3. Green Bay will trade Mason Crosby STRAIGHT UP.
Both guys looked to be VERY promising. Both are horrendous right now.
    Is Jan Stenerud available?

  4. He is serviceable, but, its obvious that he is having serious technique issues particularly with his follow through. Also, it is obvious he is having confident issues as he continues to look up to see where the ball is going before it even leaves his foot; a sure tell that his confidence is shaken.
Judge, plant, kick, follow-though, then look-up.

  5. If it’s a technique/confidence problem then it should be coachable.
But, oh wait…there in lies the problem. So is the answer for Jerry to open the purse strings as usual or to have someone work with the guy?
I’d like to think the latter but I have zero confidence in these coaches. So it’s going to have to be “MasterCard or Visa”?

  6. You know what sucks? The Cowboys are using 2 roster spots on kickers, each of whom they used a draft choice on, and they can’t make a F-ing 23 yard FG when it counts. Pathetic.

  7. Like there is a decent kicker available this time of year. Is the next kicker going to be any better? They are unemployeed for a reason.

  8. Matt Stover may become available when Adam Vinitieri returns to the Colts. The word is that he is pretty much healed. It’s a tough choice for the Colts. Stover has been solid. But Vinitieri is the man in the clutch.

  9. This guy should have been sent home on a bus from New Orleans.
    He has lost his mojo.
Luckt they found out about this now… not in post season.

  10. Their other kicker is a touchback specialist/special teams beast, he doesn’t kick field goals well.
