The Todd Haley image-bolstering tour commences

With plenty of Chiefs fans unhappy with the performance of their first-year head coach and said first-year head coach recently accused of flipping the bird after a tough loss at home to the Browns, Todd Haley finally has generated some positive press.

According to KCTV in Kansas City, Haley walked up to a stranger on Saturday and handed the guy a “stack of $20 bills.”

Brian Mondaine was waiting for a bus when Haley stopped and gave Mondaine the money.

“He’s got a little soft heart on the inside,” Mondaine told KCTV.

So was Haley handing out stacks of money all over town, or was he simply lucky that the one guy to whom he handed the cash decided to call up a local television station and blab about it?

Asked about the gesture during his Monday press conference, Haley said, “I’m grateful for all I have and I try to help others when I can.”

Ugh.

Hey, it doesn’t matter if the gesture is viewed by some (i.e., us) as being more transparent than freshly-squeegeed windshield. If the Brian Mondaines of Kansas City decide that Haley is in reality a nice guy who shouldn’t be fired, it was the best P.R. investment Haley ever could have made.
