Ryan says it's "too early to tell" if Harris will play

The guy whose name Cedric Benson doesn’t know might not get a chance to get better acquainted with the Bengals tailback on Saturday; Jets coach Rex Ryan said Tuesday that it’s “too early to tell” whether linebacker David Harris will play in the wild-card game with a high ankle sprain.

Also missing practice was punter Steve Weatherford (hamstring).  Running back Thomas Jones and fullback Tony Richardson didn’t practice, but not due to injury.

Receiver Jerricho Cotchery (hip), defensive end Shaun Ellis (knee), linebacker Ryan Fowler (head), and cornerback Donald Strickland (quad) participated on a limited basis.

Full participants in practice included receiver Braylon Edwards (elbow), quarterback Mark Sanchez (knee), and defensive back James Ihedigbo (stinger).

The Jets face the Bengals on Saturday afternoon, at Paul Brown Stadium.

  1. What he meant is “its too early to tell the Bengals” that he won’t play. He’s looking for a little edge I guess.
He doesnt want them to prepare for Curtis Painter or whomever the LB back-up is.

  2. Compared to a guy everybody’s heard of, all Harris did was have 6 less tackles, 2.5 more Sacks, and 2 more Ints while anchoring the #1 defense in the NFL. #52 in green deserved pro bowl votes just as much as #52 in purple, just doesn’t have the name recognition of Ray Lewis.

  3. Harris is a stud. Quiet, hard-nosed, blue collar linebacker. Would love to have him here. Hope he gets better soon, just not by Saturday…

  4. i’m with mommy’s boy on this one. sure that other guy has played well. if he cant go they will plug someone else in. we have to play hard to win. go find a story somewhere else.
dear mr. reporter, the reason i am morbid is because i read you every day… (kinks)

  5. this guy got me many points in my fantasy league … I brought him in once I read that Rex Ryan didn’t want to give him away for Brandon Marshall
    cannot be bad hehe

  6. Maualuga isn’t the Bengals best linebacker. Dhani Jones is. Leads the team in tackles, defensive ancor, Febreeze Sport spokesman, and Travel Channel personality. And no one knows his name, just like this Harris guy.
For the record Keith Rivers and Brandon Johnson are probably better too for now. Rey is still green but brings fire to the defense.
