Brian Schottenheimer says he knows nothing about the Bills job

New York Jets offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer is reportedly a candidate for the head-coaching job in Buffalo. But when asked about it today, Schottenheimer pulled a Sgt. Schultz.

“I know nothing,” Schottenheimer said. “I really don’t. I hear the rumors like you do.”

When asked whether the Bills have requested permission to speak with him, Schottenheimer again said he doesn’t know anything more about the Bills job than what he’s heard from reporters.

“No, not that I’m aware of,” Schottenheimer said. “This is not just coach-speak. I’m telling you the truth. I’m very happy. I hope that we continue on this process for a long time. I hope we win a lot of games. I mean that, it’s not just something I’m saying to you.”

There has also been speculation that Schottenheimer’s father, Marty Schottenheimer, might be interested in getting back into coaching. But Brian Schottenheimer said that as far as he knows, his dad is retired.

“He’s told me for the last two years that he’s done,” Brian Schottenheimer said of his father. “I think he really enjoys being retired. He enjoys coming to our games. He’s got four grandchildren, my two and my sister has two in North Carolina where he lives. I think if it was the right job, he would listen, but I think at the end of the day it would take a lot to convince him to come off the golf course and come back to work.”

  1. If Marty’s good buddy Buddy begs him, he’ll join the the Bills. It’s unclear if the Bills realize that Marty’s their best available option and know its time to get on their knees and beg marty PLEASE!!!

  2. Especially in light of how he was so unceremoniously booted out of the SD organization. I like Marty but he can only take you so far. Same is true for Andy Reid. Hopefully he’ll be fired here soon and we’ll see if he can take any other team to the Super Bowl and not do enough to win it.

  3. Marty would be a much better fit than people realize. Schotty has always developed good running teams, which fits the Bills because their QB situation is terrible but they have two decent backs in Lynch and Jackson.
All this talk about Marty choking in the playoffs, but shouldn’t Bills fans realize they have to MAKE the post season before they concern themselves with choking in them?
