Schneider will interview with Seattle on Tuesday

When the Seahawks abruptly dumped coach Jim Mora and focused immediately on USC coach Pete Carroll, it widely was assumed that, if (when) Carroll takes the job, he’ll have full control over the roster, and he’ll hire a G.M. or V.P. of player personnel to push the cart while Carroll loads it with groceries.

And it’s also widely believed that Carroll friend and confidant Pat Kirwan will be the guy.

Throwing a potential wrench into those widely-held beliefs is the fact that, as a league source tells us, the Seahawks will interview Packers director of football operations John Schneider on Tuesday.

The Packers, who could block the interview if the job doesn’t entail final say over the roster, possibly are willing to let Schneider leave even if Carroll would be calling the shots.

Still, the team’s intent to interview Schneider conflicts with the notion that Carroll would be getting the keys to the car along with $7 million per year in gas money. (We know the metaphor isn’t ideal; we just like the sound of it.)
