Agent Joe Linta recently told the Kansas City Star that, if the Chiefs were to make an offer to Romeo Crennel, he would accept it.
Apparently, the offer has come.
Adam Caplan of Scout.com reports that the Chiefs and Crennel have struck a deal that will make Crennel the team’s new defensive coordinator.
Per Nick Wright of KCSP, an announcement currently is expected to come on Friday — and current defensive coordinator Clancy Pendergast is not expected to be fired.
Coach Todd Haley recently told Wright that the Chiefs wanted to hire Crennel last year, but health issues prompted Crennel to take some time off.
The move gives the Chiefs the two coordinators — Crennel and Charlie Weis — who left the Patriots after winning their third Super Bowl in four years.
