Bears announce Tice as new offensive line coach

One of Florio’s favorite coaches is choosing to make a lateral move to Chicago.

Mike Tice will leave his job as assistant head coach/ tight ends in Jacksonville for Chicago, where he will be the offensive line coach.  There was thought Tice may have been interviewing with the Bears for their vacant offensive coordinator position.

Tice was believed to be an ally of Jack Del Rio’s in Jacksonville, and it sounds like he needs it

Tice’s departure, technically for a downgrade in title, is just another hint at potential lingering weirdness in Jacksonville.

  1. WOW…offensive LINE…its amazing how far he has fallen…i thought he was a pretty good coach at one point…

  2. Tice back in the NFC North,
Will this lead to another Sex Boat Scandal?
One with Cutler, Urlacher, Hester and… Wait I dont know anyone else on the Bears.

  3. The bears probably figured they won’t have to worry about Tice scalping super bowl tickets because they know they don’t have a chance of reaching that game. (I’m a frustrated Bears fan)

And you readily admit that? Umm…I’d call that more of a knock on you than the Bears, dumbass.

  5. Hey Cutler, will it now be Tice’s fault when you throw interceptions? YOU INTERVIEWED HIM!
QUESTION IS: Did you give the OK to hire him?

The article I believe you are referencing mentions that he has input regarding the OC, not the O-line coach.
Reading is Fundamental (RIF), there Corky.

    Child Please,
I can name every player on the Bears Roster, and anyone who has ever been on an NFL Roster within the past 10 years.
I am no amateur fan, I was just trying to bring humour to the subject.
So if you want to challenge me to NFL knowledge, buckle up your chinstrap son.

  8. What a rollercoaster of job titles… and he’s near the bottom of said rollercoaster here it seems…

  9. from chicagobears.com: As an offensive line coach, Tice tutored five different players—Matt Birk, Jeff Christy, Randall McDaniel, Todd Steussie and Korey Stringer—to 10 Pro Bowl appearances. In 1998, when the Vikings scored an NFL-record 556 points, three Minnesota offensive linemen started in the Pro Bowl.

  10. Despite his poor judgment on some matters (ticket scalping mainly) he was a pretty decent coach really. Took Chilly two years to get the team BACK to the level Tice had it on. And Tice had no such luxury as the $$ provided to chilly for assistants and getting players.
And people.. give it up. He was NOT on the boat. Yes, it was “under his watch” but really. Come on.
I find it quite interesting he jumped ship to move down to a position coach. I’ll bet he thinks that Del Rio is in hot water and maybe the whole staff might be axed at some point.

I love it when someone who cannot grasp nuanced humor starts hurling around insults.
DWat, there was one dumbass in that exchange, and his name wasn’t Nick Shank.

  12. Wow, Del Rio bails him out with a job after he gets fired by the Vikes, and as soon as Del Rio gets heat in Jacksonville, Tice bolts like a rat from a sinking ship. Pretty weak, not to mention a Kiffin-like show of loyalty. Serves him right if Lovie’s staff gets axed next year.

  13. “I wonder if he’ll still have that stupid pencil on his ear.”
Yeah. Pencils are like totally stupid. Totally.

  14. Something really weird is going on in JAX.
Ten bucks says they hire a college coach as head coach right after National Signing Day.

  15. Tice?……..he’d be the perfect coach for the Raiders………………………………………
    How F#$@ed would that be,…..
    The Bears Suck Dog….
    RAIDER FOR LIFE………..
    OUT.

  16. Meathead’s back in the North!!! Welcome back, coach!
I don’t think Tice should be running the ship (or boat) anywhere, but he is a very good O Line coach. The Bear’s made a great move getting him in Chicago to fix an area that is in terrible disrepair.

I, too, pretty much judge people’s intelligence based on how many Chicago Bears they can name.

  18. I like the move. Tice was a good coach, but seemed a little overwhelmed trying to handle an entire team. Now he gets to focus on a small core group of players and hopefully turn what was one of the worst O-line units in the NFL to one of the best.

  19. tice is a good coach and he will improve chicago oline, he does a good job of getting more out of his players. look at track record with the vikes

  20. He’s a great Offensive Line Coach, he was just like Chilly. He wasn’t qualified to be a HEAD COACH.
Tice did a brilliant job with our offensive line though.
