Lito Sheppard may get benched

The first time the Jets and Colts played, Austin Collie ran Jets cornerback Lito Sheppard ragged.  Collie may not get a second chance to do it Sunday.

The New York Daily News writes that Sheppard is expected to be dropped out of New York’s base defense Sunday.  Sheppard reportedly told people during the week he didn’t know what role he would have.

Rich Cimini expects Sheppard to be active, but relegated to nickel or dime duty.  If he’s New York’s fourth cornerback, he won’t be on the field that much.

Dwight Lowery is the most likely candidate to replace Sheppard.

New York’s secondary depth will be tested Sunday; Pierre Garcon wasn’t even available the last time these two teams played.

  1. Piere garcon and collier are just role players on a one man team. Lito will play a big role because he is smarter and more experienced. He has realized he needs to use angles and experience to his advantage. This is a smoke screen. Garcon and COllier will play high on emotion, Lito si the perfect players to sucker them into showing their hand too soon. Lito gets at least one pick today.

  2. Speaking as a lifelong Eagles fan, I’d rather have Lito back than watch Asante Samuel get named to Pro Bowl’s he doesn’t deserve.

  3. Lito used to be amazing. Then it was all about the money and he had a flameout. Lost his passion and became a very average corner. Should’ve just done his job on the Eagles and he’d have everything going for him.

  4. Now you Jets fans see what Eagles fans were saying for 2-3 years. Sheppard isn’t that good. He’s hurt constantly, and wants to live off of his 2 pro bowl berths 6 years ago.

  5. Funny there was an article in the Phila Inquirer about how Sheppard is appreciated in NY, and is happy to be there and playing this w/e. Doesn’t sound like the Jets was the happy landing Sheppard describes in the article appearing just today.
