Childress says there is no timeline for Favre’s decision

Brad Childress ran into Brett Favre Tuesday morning while the quarterback was getting treatment. Not a lot was said that Childress felt like discussing.

“We didn’t really have any meaningful conversation about what’s next except he was catching a plane to head home late this morning,” Childress said at his season-ending press conference Tuesday.

Childress says there is “no timeline” for Favre to make his decision. The coach said he wouldn’t be surprised by anything Favre did.

“Its up to him. It’s not a deal where I need to put a gun to his head and say I need to know a week, two weeks, two months.”

One reporter then asked a great question: “What if it’s August 18th?”

Childress: “I don’t know. That’s a hypothetical.”

Asked if he wanted to avoid the circus-like atmosphere of last offseason, Childress joked, “I usually don’t run the circus. . . . You gotta do what you gotta do in that regard. If you got to purchase a big top or animals,” he continued until we decided to stop transcribing.

In summary, expect more of the same uncertainty this offseason. Childress said he would love consistency and certainty, but sometimes a “state of flux” pushes you to create.

And for everyone already sick of Favre Watch 2010, take comfort in the fact that Favre and Childress should both go into hiding after Tuesday.
