Report: Zorn in lead to coach Ravens QBs

Adam Caplan of Scout.com reports that former Redskins head coach Jim Zorn is “the leader for the QB coach job with the Ravens.” The position became vacant when Hue Jackson moved on to become Oakland’s offensive coordinator.

Zorn’s main competition is Al Saunders, who was on Baltimore’s staff as a consultant last year. Saunders was interviewed for the job. The Ravens likely interviewed Zorn at the Senior Bowl. He made the rounds in Mobile last week in search of work, as many unemployed coaches do each year.

Zorn is something of an odd fit under Ravens offensive coordinator Cam Cameron because of their backgrounds. Zorn comes from the Mike Holmgren/West Coast offense tree, while Cameron’s system is more closely associated with the Don Coryell, vertical-based style.

Still, there’s no questioning Zorn’s qualifications for the position. He has been in coaching since 1988, spending the vast majority of those years as a quarterbacks coach and, most notably, overseeing the development of Charlie Batch in Detroit from 1998 until 2000 and Matt Hasselbeck from 2001 through 2007 in Seattle.
