One Rams bid has strong ties to Toronto

We continue to learn more about the three current bids for the Rams, and the news doesn’t sound great for folks interested in keeping pro football in St. Louis.

Bernie Miklasz of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that one of the three bids is from a group with close ties to Toronto. Dave Checketts, the owner of the St. Louis Blues, is the local bid. He’s reportedly made good progress recently by adding Texas billionaire Gerald J. Ford to his group.

With that said, this statement by Miklasz should worry St. Louis fans: “Checketts is our best hope to secure a long-term future for the Rams in St. Louis. Or to put it another way: Checketts IS the St. Louis offer.”

The identity of the third group isn’t clear, but it apparently isn’t local.

Howard Balzer reported the other day that the current leading bid isn’t from St. Louis, so Checketts apparently has some catching up to do.

According to the Rams’ lease, the Edward Jones Dome must rate among the top 25 percent of NFL stadiums by 2015 or the team can opt out of the agreement.
