Burleson, Texas police Commander Doug Sandifer said Tuesday that the wife of ex-Cowboys tight end Jay Novacek is believed to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
“It appeared no foul play,” Sandifer said. “We’re waiting for the medical examiner’s findings.”
Johnson County Sheriff Bob Alford indicated that LeAnne Novacek’s apparent suicide surprised the community she was actively involved in.
“LeAnne and Jay are a very well thought of family here in our county,” Alford said, describing the deceased as outgoing and personable. “I don’t know of anyone that didn’t feel at ease around here. She just went out of her way to make you feel welcome.”
