League announces full officiating crew for Super Bowl XLIV

On Tuesday, reports emerged that Scott Green will serve as the referee for Super Bowl XLIV.

The league has now announced that Green has earned the assignment — and the NFL has announced the rest of the crew.

The umpire is Undrey Wash, the head linesman is John McGrath, the line judge is Jim Seeman, the field judge is Rob Vernatchi, the side judge is Greg Meyer, and the back judge is Greg Steed.

In the past, Super Bowl officials were determined by picking an entire crew; currently, the league uses an all-star ensemble based on the manner in which each official grades out in comparison to the peers at his position.

  1. This is bad news for Saints fans….an all-star crew of officials is far less likely to miss their roughing the passer calls.

  2. Where is Mike Carey? Green missed 2 calls in the Gb and Cardinals playoff game that GB went on to win…..but it’s ok…..I never blame the refs for the bad calls because it’s their judgement that counts in the end. Just get the calls right is all I ask! I don’t care how long it takes, how many commercials or replays at every angle…just get the call right!

  3. I hope they are practicing around the clock so they get all the calls right.
Like the change to the all-star format.

Not really – Scott Green was the referee of the GB/Ariz playoff game……
