Saints flag to fly at Indiana state capitol

Whether it’s the Super Bowl, the World Series or the NBA Finals, when two sports teams play for a championship, the governors of those teams’ states feel the need to engage in a silly bet over the outcome.

In the case of the New Orleans Saints and the Indianapolis Colts at Super Bowl XLIV, the bet between Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal and Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels was that the loser had to fly a flag with the winning team’s logo at the state capitol.

And so Jindal sent Daniels a Saints flag on Wednesday.

Jindal said he wants photographic evidence that the flag has flown. Daniels surely won’t want to display the Saints flag prominently; perhaps he’ll fly it in a capitol building restroom or something.

And, although these bets between governors happen all the time, it wouldn’t be surprising to hear Jindal say a Super Bowl bet between two governors is something that’s never been done before.
