Chan Gailey officially introduced his coaching staff Friday, and it was hard to ignore one trend about the group. This will not be a coaching stuff with a lot of NFL experience.
ESPN’s Tim Graham broke it down in a fancy table. Six staff members have two years of NFL experience or less. Eight assistants have performed two or fewer years in their current role. Four of them will have zero seasons of NFL experience in their role.
The defense could experience an especially difficult transition. The Buffalo News does a great job breaking down where Bills defenders will fit in the new scheme. Some fit just fine. Others are less certain.
If Aaron Schobel doesn’t retire -- he’s currently undecided -- he’ll have to transition to outside linebacker. Kyle Williams, the man fans voted as the team’s defensive MVP, doesn’t have a logical position in a 3-4 defense. The team has no nose tackle.
Taking over the Bills would be an enormous challenge for a staff with any level of experience, must less a staff of relative newcomers.
