Ray Edwards says he would have sought revenge for Favre

Vikings defensive end Ray Edwards says he didn’t know that the Saints were pounding quarterback Brett Favre during the NFC title game.

And Edwards says that, if he had known, he would have done something about it.

“Taking those hit that he took [against New Orleans] I wish I would have known that they did that because I don’t really watch the offense,” Edwards told Paul Allen and Paul Charchian of KFAN on Friday, per Judd Zulgad of the Minneapolis Star Tribune. “I would have sure done the same thing to [Saints quarterback Drew] Brees because that wasn’t right.”

Edwards’ position marks a dramatic change in his attitude toward the team’s starting quarterback for the 2009 season. Before Favre unretired for the second straight year, Edwards went on the record to say he didn’t want him on the team.

Now, Edwards is among those who want Favre to come back for another year.

“Definitely, I think he has the ability [to return],” Edwards said. “Now OTAs and training camp, maybe not. But come the start of the season, I’m pretty sure there wouldn’t be a problem with that with most guys and we’d love to have him back if that’s the case.”

And if, as we believe, the Vikings will open the 2010 season with a return to the Superdome, Edwards might finally get a chance to do that which he would have done if he had known what the Saints were doing to Favre.
