Vince Young parties with his shirt on

nfl_young_250.jpgTwo years ago, Titans quarterback Vince Young raised plenty of eyebrows when he ditched offseason workouts so he could work on his Texas degree.

He ended up taking a class in all-male shirtless Tequila parties.

Now, after Young’s career has bottomed out and resurrected, he was back in Texas.  And while this video from TMZ.com reveals that his shirt was on, it’s not a stretch to wonder whether a bottle or two of Tequila was involved.

Look, the guy is allowed to be young and have fun.  But anyone who assumes that Young is ready to be a consistently excellent quarterback at the NFL level really hasn’t been paying close attention — or talking to anyone who got a chance to observe Young’s overall football intellect at the Pro Bowl.

    sentence should read……
“anyone who assumes that Young is ready to be a consistently excellent QB at the NFL level is an idiot.”

  2. Has anyone ever seen Vince with a girl? Maybe his problem is he is playing the wrong position. Wide receiver may be a better fit for that Sissy Queen.

  3. Look, yes you’re right, he needs to work harder, he needs to be better… but having a night off in early Feb? Pissing on the Saints (THE SAINTS WON THE FREAKING SUPERBOWL? WHAT???? CITATION NEEDED!) for celebrating something that most players never get to achieve…
Mike, obviously the VY post is more valid, but what are you expecting of these guys? There have been better QB’s who have been less dedicated, had worse attitudes, or been drunk pretty much the whole time. Newsflash: Not everybody is the same. You could make this guy work as hard as Peyton Manning, and he may not ‘get it’, or that style of practicing may not be right for the individual.
Some people need more downtime than others. Plenty of other NFL players are out getting drunk at this time of year – you should look at your twitter feed for proof – and yet what, because this guy is a QB he needs to be teetotal? Where is that in his contract? You do realise Young et al could just as easily go and get smashed at home and you would never know it? What’s to say Tom Brady and Peyton Manning aren’t at home getting trolleyed (My English coming out now) in the privacy of their own home? I wouldn’t blame them if they did.
Just lay off yeah? These guys aren’t at school, they’re in the prime of their life and as someone who is the same age as VY, I have a great deal of sympathy for him being called out for simply enjoying a period of his life that doesn’t come around again.

  4. “No news is better than this news! Come on man TMZ?”
IMHO, No response is better than that response!

Don’t hate on gays, The NFL is full of them and that’s just fine. Green Bay has the most on their team in the NFL and there isn’t anything wrong with it.

  6. You see a picture of him partying, and automatically you go right to “anyone who assumes that Young is ready to be a consistently excellent quarterback at the NFL level really hasn’t been paying close attention”.
He’s going to party – as any normal human being would at his age.
I used to love this site – great insight into the kinds of stories that the mainstream media wouldn’t write about. But now its like your a shell of your former self – sensationalizing stories that simply aren’t there.
Many of your stories now are like the garbage we see all over the internet where the headline makes a story out of a non-story….kinda like your other article today where you reprimand the Saints for a whopping week of partying to celebrate winning the SuperBowl.
    What happened to you man?

  7. And the PFT obsession continues. I realize it’s the offseason and all, but geez Florio, get a life.

  8. “I used to love this site – great insight into the kinds of stories that the mainstream media wouldn’t write about. But now its like your a shell of your former self – sensationalizing stories that simply aren’t there.”
The alternative is for the NBC overlords to turn PFT into a part-time thing for lack of real NFL news in the off-season.

He’s being paid millions of dollars to be the quarterback of a billion dollar NFL franchise. He’s not some jackass like you who has nothing expected out of them. It’s called maturity and responsibility. You do that stuff in high school and college, after that it’s time to grow up.

  10. Vince Young is 26-13 as a starter.
I really dont get why everyone hates him, Oh right. He’s black.

  11. Partying means he can’t be a good QB? I get that his skills are questionable, but why choose THIS to validate that point?
Drinking is fun, basically everyone does it, get off his nuts

  12. I don’t like Vince Young and think he is highly overrated, but dude is young and I think that we all have some video or photo of us acting stupid after a night of partying when we were his age. So I can’t believe I am sticking up for the dude but let the guy have some fun.

  13. Unless you’re a humorless drone like Peyton Manning, that’s what you do when you’re in you’re 20s. You party.

—Stop crying Wolf. People have tuned a deaf ear to those who whine about race anymore. We don’t believe you wayyy before we give the benefit of the doubt. The President is half black, stop crying.

  15. I’m happy the fins drafted Henne, it seems allot of QB’s like to party too much if they either aren’t married or engaged. Henne isn’t a partier (not anymore) just a book junky.

  16. Can’t be a millionaire 20-something and have a few drinks, no no no! Fits right in with that nanny state bullfeces. If having a few drinks and acting an innocent fool with your friends away from your high-pressure job is wrong, you’d have to be a holier-than-thou stuffed shirt glans penis to want to be right.

  17. Hoo boy, the bigot yahoos are out in force this weekend!
(guess the NASCAR crowd must be bored after Saturday’s laugher)

  18. Hey Florio, Romo played in the Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. Isn’t it about time for a “Romo can’t be competitive in two things at the same time” article?

  19. I’m with Iggles07 on this one..these posts are neither informative or relevant. You may as well go to work for TMZ or any other gossip site if this is the type of reporting you’re going to do. This is whatyour site has become.
It’s almost embarrassing but I’m pretty sure you’ll stoop to any level if it pays good enough.

  20. Why do people hate him? Because he sucks….not because he’s black. Oh yeah, and because he’s full of shit. Talking about being a “Hall of Famer”….what a dip shit. I don’t care if he’s black, gay, from Mars or whatever…HE SUCKS!! The league wanted him to be good…they tried…but he didn’t. He was on the cover of Madden, he was in the Pro Bowl when he threw 11 TD’s and 12 INT’s. He is what he is.

  21. This is garbage. He’s in his 20s and has every right to party in the offseason. And to question his intellect and football skills because of this is idiotic.
This site is getting worse and worse. I’m taking it off bookmark. This post is slanderous. Vince is a proven winner and took our team from 0-6 to 7-2 record.
    Florio, you’re a tool.

  22. Couldn’t have said it better, Iggles07. I used to come here because there was a scoop or insightful article that would not be found anywhere else. Now, I only see sensationalized non-stories and heavily biased “reports.” It gets old fast, and I wish you guys would go back to your old ways

  23. Who cares what his football intellect is? Vince Young has been a winner at every level, and the last time I looked, who won a game is kinda important. His stats are improving, his game management is improving, and let’s face it, despite not being the sharpest knife in the drawer, he’s smarter than practically everyone from West Virginia.
Also, what is it with Florio and TMZ? Is he finding it so hard to land that “big scoop” these days that he’s reduced to trawling the gutter?

  24. Who cares about Vince Young. As far as i’m concerned, he is a “never was” in the nfl. He was, and still is a loser. Can’t even pass the wonderlic test. Probably can’t spell his own name.

  25. i have no problem with Vince Young doing this, unlike JaMarcus Russell, Young actually has won games and he improved his game, plus i bet Brees and other passers aren’t out practicing yet, Russell is the main guy who needs to work, not only does he suck, but he is WAY out of shape, Vince Young is in shape and has worked hard to get his job back.

  26. Iggles07 & tyrone said it all. Where’s the rumor or the news here? This story – as many have been lately – is a joke. I’d rather have no stories than read this kind of garbage criticizing a kid for partying in the off-season.

  27. It’s the off season. Why isn’t he home studying film 24/7? Devising game plans and working out from dawn til dusk. I’m no VY fan, but is every single NFL player at home studying up for next season while VY is the only one out with friends? This article is as ridiculous as this site is becoming or shall I say has become.

  28. Did I watch the right video? The one where he’s hanging on the pole?
Damn, with the responses to this story, you’d think it was a video of him shotgunning a beer!
There is no alcohol in this video. Just a few guys acting a little goofy.
This is news? Freakin’ Pathetic Florio. But I’m expecting this nonsense from you now. Do you have a side gig going with the National Enquirer? That seems to be your attitude. Let me say it again: PATHETIC

  29. Hey, did anyone stop to think that partying got Favre a one-way ticket out of Atlanta and YET, he continued to party down after that? If he’s partying and NOT preparing then I think he needs to get his butt back into the film room but don’t just assume that this is the only reason why he had problems. Hell, shouldn’t Peyton Manning be prevented from doing those goofy commercials with the Donald and his brother? They obviously took away from his preparation.

  30. This must be the most idiotic, dishonest and homophobic posts I’ve ever read from Florio (i.e., screams agenda). So VY lacks the “intellect” because, god forbid, he parties a little during the offseason? And what the heck does being at an “all-male” party have anything to do with his playing ability? Does Florio make posts likes this for Favre, Roethlisberger (or Rapisberger), Tom “Knocked Up” Brady, Tony Romo, Matthew Stafford (who has new pics up each week it seems), etc. Of course not.
I tend to look at wins/losses and results, and in the era of Alex Smith, David Carr, and a host of other bust QBs, VY is pretty dang good. Florio has an agenda, and hopes VY fails, for whatever reason (race, sexual orientation, or whatever). That is the only logical conclusion someone can draw from Florio going crazy off due to an innocent photo of a 20 something guy have a fun night out on the town.

So what is he doing wrong exactly? If you, Florio, or anyone else can answer that question, I’d be very very happy.

  32. Florio, give the guy a break, he played better this past season than you could ever play five life times from now. This is just another one of those really bad blogs about nothing bro. C’mon, boys have to be boys…it aint cool being a a mama’s boy all the time. Betcha ass you would do the same thing if you had that kinda dough, right batty boy?

  33. “Does Florio make posts likes this for Favre, Roethlisberger (or Rapisberger), Tom “Knocked Up” Brady, Tony Romo, Matthew Stafford (who has new pics up each week it seems), etc. Of course not. ”
Actually, he does it to Romo, too. What’s different about Romo and the other guys you mentioned? He’s hispanic. Romo’s too stupid to be an elite QB because he forgot what down it was (he didn’t), Romo’s just happy to be there and doesn’t care about winning or getting any better, Romo spends too much time playing competitive golf to be competitive in the NFL blah blah blah. And no I’m not kidding, here are the posts.
    http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2009/10/05/romo-didnt-know-it-was-fourth-down/
“Even if it was a temporary release of brain gas, the fact remains that franchise quarterbacks don’t make that mistake. Ever. And so, until he proves otherwise, Romo won’t be regarded as a franchise quarterback by us.”
    http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2009/09/22/tony-dorsett-thinks-romo-hasnt-done-anything-to-deserve-stardom/
“Our position has been that Romo has done well, but that he has been unwilling or unable to maximize his potential. As a result, Romo currently has his head pressed against a ceiling.
And he seems to be OK with that.”
    http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2009/09/21/new-romo-not-much-different-than-old-romo/
“Romo simply doesn’t have what it takes mentally to become a high-end franchise quarterback. Undrafted in 2003 from Eastern Illinois, Romo already has achieved more in the NFL than he ever could have imagined. He’s the starting quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys, and he scored a long-term contract two years ago that will pay him more money than he otherwise ever could have made without winning Powerball. All for an Eastern Illinois slappy who under the expectations for the unfolding of his life would have been coaching high school football by now. So he’s content. And being content isn’t what leads to Super Bowls. As we’ve seen, being content doesn’t even lead to playoff wins. More recently, it doesn’t even lead to playoffs.”
    http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2009/05/15/romo-keeps-sending-the-wrong-message/
“It starts, in our view, with the quarterback. And with the current quarterback spending a portion of the offseason trying to qualify for the U.S. Open, we think that the Cowboys still have a long way to go. In our view, it’s one thing to play a round of golf for relaxation purposes. It’s quite another to dilute a guy’s total pool of competitive juices by finding something else about which to be competitive that isn’t football. Romo doesn’t have the same burning passion and desire to win that characterizes a true franchise quarterback. Then again, we can understand why Romo likes golf — the chips shots are never preceded by a fumbled snap.”

  34. Let’s see…TMZ, that’s Perez Hilton, right? The same guy who caused California beauty Carrie Prejean to be forced out of her Miss California title because she improperly answered a question about gays, right?
I think the best photo I ever saw of Perez Hilton was one where someone had blackened one of his eyes.
I wish it had been me what had punched that lying crapweasel in the face.
Mike Florio, please, I’ve read you since ’99 or whenever you started blogging. Please don’t ever stoop this low again.
