Merriman, Tequila resolve their differences

In a surprising development, the lawsuits filed by and between Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman and Tila Nguyen a/k/a Tila Tequila have been resolved, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

The lawyers are being understandably discreet, since settlement agreements usually prevent the two sides from saying anything other than “the matter has been resolved.”

True to form, however, Tequila has taken to her Twitter page with some comments that strongly imply she has prevailed.

“Case closed!!! God was on my side all along,” she says in one entry.

Here’s another: “I told u guys, I never lied about anything. And now, god has let everyone know the truth! I didn’t have to say a word! God told u for me!”

But the documents settling claims that Merriman allegedly choked and otherwise battered Tequila and that Tequila’s relentless accusations harmed Merriman’s business interests surely contain language pursuant to which both sides agree that neither side has done anything wrong. Thus, Merriman’s lawyer should be firing off a letter right now to Tequila’s lawyer demanding that delete any tweets stating or implying that she “won,” and threatening a cause of action for breach of contract if she continues to make such statements.

Meanwhile, the reader who alerted us to the settlement makes a great point -- if Merriman and Tequila can work out their differences, surely the NFL and the NFLPA can do so as well.

[UPDATE: The “I never lied about anything” tweet has been deleted.]
