Chiefs re-sign Matt Gutierrez, Kolby Smith

The Kansas City Chiefs had 11 players who were due to become restricted free agents.

Two will remain under contract after March 5.

The team has announced that running back Kolby Smith and quarterback Matt Gutierrez have been re-signed.

Smith, a fifth-round pick in 2007, started six games as a rookie and three in 2008. Last year, injuries limited him to only four games.

Gutierrez arrived via waivers from the Patriots in 2008.

The Chiefs also released guard Mike Goff, a 12-year veteran who started seven games for the Chiefs in 2009.

The deadline for tendering offers to the team’s other nine restricted free agents is March 4. Alternatively, the Chiefs can sign one, more, or all of them to new deals -- as they did with Smith and Gutierrez.
