Redskins release Rock Cartwright

The Washington Redskins have commenced the process of retooling their roster by cutting veteran tailback and special-teams standout Rock Cartwright.

We got the text at 3:58 p.m. ET, but we were knee deep in StarCaps minutiae.  Others might have reported it already; we don’t have time to slow down and check.

Though by no means a household name, Cartwright has spent his entire eight-year career with the Redskins.  He started two games in 2009, due to injuries to Clinton Portis and Ladell Betts.

  1. That fella has the coolest name!
    “Rock Cartwright!”
That is a freakin’ awesome name, but he is a humble fella role player type of teammate.

  2. Rock was a solid special teams player and has great heart. It was time for him to go but I know many Redskin fans like me would like to thank him for his contributions to the team these last 8 years.

  3. He looked pretty good for the Redskins… wouldn’t mind seeing the Eagles pick him up as a cheap backup for Shady

  4. Well, here’s the Eagles McCoy’s new backup. A special teams ace and good receiver out of the backfield.

  5. She called. He yelled “Cartwright”. I missed it.
    -Who’s Cartwright?
    I’m Cartwright.
    -You’re not Cartwright.
    That’s gold, Jerry! Gold!
Now, The Marriage Ref…eh, not so much.

  6. phillyeaglesCHUMP…take a look in that trophy case real quick and tell me what you see. Oops, gotta love it when a Sheagles fan tries to talk trash.
On a more serious note, Rock will be missed in DC. He’s a gritty, no nonesense guy who had just about more heart than anyone on the field. Thanks for the great 8 years man.

  7. Dreadskin Great Coaches:
    Steve Spurrier
    Richie Petitbon
    Terry Robiskie
    Marty Schottenheimer
    Jack Pardee
    Keep up the good work.

If you all could win ONE superbowl I would love to hear about when it is going to happen. Your probably some thug loser on south street who goes to games in your overly baggy, too big yo boy clothes, wearing a McNabb jersey while you swear at him all game long, and then go back to your row home on 30 and tasker and realize what a loser you are.
Schottenheimer was a hell of a coach, should have kept him around longer.
Spurrier is there really anything to say about this?
You make no sense at all what so ever and I cna’t wait to whip that ass next season. Until then go along acting like a thug and trying to act hard.
Cartwright was a team player. He played hard, he played to the best of his abilities. What more do you want a man to do? My hat goes off to him and he will be missed.
