Patriots, Eagles have offers out to Peppers

Perhaps realizing that saying a contract with Julius Peppers is Chicago’s “deal to lose,” word emerged Friday morning that the Patriots and Eagles also have offers out to Peppers, according to NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora.

That’s nice and all, but Peppers isn’t going to Foxborough or Philadelphia Friday afternoon.  Bill Belichick and Andy Reid didn’t visit Peppers in North Carolina at midnight like Lovie Smith did.

This looks like a last-minute effort by Peppers’ agent Carl Carey to squeeze some extra cash out of Chicago’s coffers.

Carey himself said that the Bears shouldn’t look over their shoulders or worry about other teams.  They’d be wise to listen.

  1. Its a done deal, Sorry Florio your precious Vikings reign as NFC North champs is over

  2. Carey is an idiot who gives horrible advice. He finds a way to lose with a straight flush in his hand.

  3. I highly doubt he’ll be in either an Eagles or Pats Uniforms… He’ll be a bear by this afternoon…

  4. Reid and Belichick aren’t worried that they aren’t going to have a job at the end of 2010, either. Lovie isn’t kissing Pepper’s butt as much as trying to save his own.

  5. So much for declaring you want to go to a championship team, Julius…
    Two words: Jay Cutler.
    Bwahahahahahaha

  6. Probably the first time someone named Lovie showed up at another person’s house at midnight and it wasn’t for a booty call… Or perhaps it was…
Keep it on the DL Mr Peppers.

  7. If he does come to New England (and we all hope he does), the Patriots had better not be stingy with a new contract for Vince.
New England needs to re-sign Bodden quickly too before he gets away.

  8. Will there be a bank large enough in Chicago to handle all the money Peppers is getting ready to receive from the Bears?
    Can you say $45M guaranteed?

  9. The Bears are so lost it isn’t even funny! They are becoming a laughingstock franchise and it’s sad. The reason they get him over two much better franchises? Because they are willing to be stupid and pay stupid money for a guy that is 30 years old and on the downside of his career. Good job Chicago! When your finally fill all the holes in your roster in three years, he will be ready to retire!

  10. I would definitely love to see Peppers in an Eagles uniform, but I’m not so sure thats gonna happen. But, if the Eagles had Peppers and Cole on the edges of the D-line, I think Asante would have about 12-15 INT’s!! Seriously! There would be so much pressure on opposing QB’s that would cause early and inaccurate throws. Too bad I dont see that happening though.

  11. mzezulak:
Ha! Sorry man, it’s the Vikes or the Pack.. You can fight with the Lions for third..

  12. No chance he goes to the Pats – Wilfork, Brady and too many other RFA’s to take care of first. Plus, Bodden is on the way out, so they have to get another starting CB. Probably a ruse from the Peppers camp to get things moving along.

  13. “Why would he rather go to Chicago than NE?”
You don’t know much about NE do you ? They won’t pay this guy the kind of money he wants and expects, or anything near it. The Pats have a business model that has been successful for years. That model is based on not overpaying players.
“If he does come to New England (and we all hope he does), the Patriots had better not be stingy with a new contract for Vince.”
And that’s why Peppers will NOT be a Patriot. Peppers is all about money. The Pats are not going to destroy their business model for any one player. They can’t keep Wilfork at the money they want to pay him and get Peppers at twice that.

  14. I can’t believe Bears fans think they will win one more game because of this over-hyped player.

  15. Why is it that Peppers is supposed to get all this money? Shouldn’t you have to be a good player with good production to justify a large contract. I think whoever signs him is screwed when the cap comes back.

  16. “Its a done deal, Sorry Florio your precious Vikings reign as NFC North champs is over.”
The Bears are now (slightly) better than the Vikings at ONE POSITION.

  17. When are the Bears going to realize they need help on offense? They have no WR and no offensive line. so they go out and sign Peppers and thats the answer? Peppers is one of the most overrated players in the NFL. It doesnt make this team any closer to the Vikings or the Packers. Whats wrong with these GM’s?

  18. He scares the hell out of me for the money!! Why would the Pats mess up there salary structure when you might get close to his future production for far less $$$$? Overhyped!!!

  19. How far has New England fell, “no more I want to play for you for peanuts oh mighty one”. I mean Chicago?, are you pulling my leg or what.
And this is just the start, you shit all over players but can give them a ring they deal with it. You shit all over players while being a shit team and the players get the word out, New England is done.

  20. Why Would He Go To The Bears?
That Just Tell You What Type Of Player He Is, He’s Playing For The Money,
I Know Everybody Wants To Win But Going To The BEARS Who Dont Have Any Draft Picks Untill 3rd Round, No Offense Intact, I Just Hope He Signs With The Bears So Aaron Rodgers & Green Bay Can Destroy Them Next Year Twice Including The Vikings!!
    Go Pats!!
