Chiefs keep looking for tailbacks

WillieParker.jpgWith Larry Johnson long gone and Jamaal Charles in need of a competent backup, the Kansas City Chiefs are searching for some help at tailback.

They’re visited with Thomas Jones and Justin Fargas.  Next up?  Steelers tailback Willie Parker, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Parker, a hero of Super Bowl XL, plummeted out of favor in Pittsburgh with the emergence of Rashard Mendenhall.  The Steelers are not expected to keep Parker.

He visited with the Redskins on Tuesday, and he’ll be in Kansas City on Thursday.

Parker has rushed for 5,378 yards in six season, with a career average of 4.3 yards per carry.  His best season came in 2006, with 1,494 yards rushing and 13 touchdowns.

UPDATE:  Parker will have to keep looking.  The Chiefs have signed Thomas Jones.

  1. I really like the signing of Thomas Jones, he is a beast, even though he is a little older, he is not going to be doing too much, we still have Jamal Charles. Keep it up Pioli, better get Ryan Lilja in and sign the hometown Kansas City guy to help out the O-Line!!!!!! Go Chiefs!!!

  2. A HORRIBLE HORRIBLE move signing old, high mileage and stop-gap Jones. KC off season to date receives an F, same grade they got last off season 2009. Another 16 losses 2010 appends. My Chiefs are going in reverese.

  3. lol saying they are going in reverse after adding a top five rusher and pro bowler??? ya hes a stop gap role player thats what FA is for…there arent any young superstars in FA if they are free agents that means their teams let them go in the first place…you get your superstars in the draft…get some sence icon
