Jury deliberations apparently will start today in Denver, as the lawyers presented their closing arguments in the trial of Willie Clark, the man accused of killing Broncos cornerback Darrent Williams on January 1, 2007.
As of this posting, the closing arguments had not yet concluded.
Defense lawyer Abraham Hutt told the jury that Clark was not in the white Tahoe from which bullets emerged -- a tough notion to sell given the number of witnesses who testified that Clark was in the white Tahoe, and given Clark’s decision not to testify.
Earlier, prosecutor Tim Twining made his final case for a conviction, summarizing the various pieces of evidence that point to Clark as the killer.
Twining also argued that the target was, indeed, receiver Brandon Marshall. “Not once, not twice, but three times, [Marshall] had run-ins with [Clark],” Twining said. “From the get-go that night, the defendant was upset with Brandon Marshall.”
The jury likely will deliberate until 5:00 p.m. local time. If they don’t reach a verdict, they’ll be back in the morning.
