Kevin Williams testifies in StarCaps case

The StarCaps trial is moving more slowly than the metabolism of, well, someone who needs to take StarCaps.

On Tuesday, Vikings defensive tackle Kevin Williams testified.

According to the Associated Press, Williams said that he took StarCaps, a supposedly all-natural diuretic that had been spiked with a prescription diuretic, to “help me shed a couple extra pounds, for health reasons, keep the coach off my back.”

Williams also had a $400,000 bonus tied to his weight.

Williams said that his playing weight of 310 pounds will move to 315 pounds in the offseason, and that when he’s too heavy defensive line coach Karl Dunbar makes Williams “feel real bad.”

The 29-year-old Pro Bowler testified that he had decided not to tell his family about the four-game suspension when news of the banishment was reported in the media. Friends asked if he was taking steroids.

Kevin Williams will be cross-examined by NFL lawyers on Wednesday. Teammate Pat Williams presumably will take the stand after Kevin Williams’ testimony has ended.
