Larry Foote calls Cardinals his first choice

Free agent linebacker Larry Foote is in Arizona for a meeting with the Cardinals, and although the Cardinals weren’t his first visit, he says they are his first choice.

Foote described the Cardinals as his first choice when speaking to Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic.

Foote previously visited the Redskins, and Washington remains a viable option for him. He could also return to the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he played from 2002 to 2008.

But while the Cardinals, Redskins and Steelers are all interested in Foote, it’s not clear whether any of them are interested in paying him what he wants. Foote reportedly wants a deal at least as good as the three-year $14 million contract that linebacker Scott Fujita signed with the Browns.

Foote started 14 games for the Lions last year but will not be returning to Detroit.

  1. i would never sign a free agent linebacker who had their hay day new york(jets), pittsburgh, or baltimore.

  2. Cards should “pay the man!”, it’s not like they have a clear option for someone else to step in & his experience is worth it. Either way i think porter should still be the 1st priority.

  3. Whoa…what happened in Detroit? All I read offseason is that Foote was “going home” and wanted to finish his career as a Lion.

  4. Foote is over the hill…….it only took a lowly team like the lions one year to figure that out but yet there are teams ready to pay big bucks to land a player who’s best years are in his rearview mirror.

  5. Footes not worth 14 million tell him to put down the pipe. I understand why The Steelers want him as a security backup or to challenge 36 yr old James Farrior but not a 4 mill a yr and 3 mill signing bonus. I’d sign him to a 2yr 5 mil contract only.

  6. Ask Anquan Bolding and Carlos Dansby …and a few other players what the Cardinals think about leverage. Look at the history of their treatment of their players. WOW! They’ve already paid who the players on that team, …that they’re gonna pay. If he signs with them, ..that’ll be the second biggest mistake he’s made in his career.

  7. yo snow .. bolding? carlos? that would be boldin and karlos there genius…the cards tore up q’s contract earlier in his career, then fitz got his and q started chirpin’…karlos has been franchised for a toal of 20M over the last two years…hey slick, seems to me the Cards treat players just fine…must be another fan of one of the other 3 train-wrecks in the NFC West

  8. The Lions fans were SO excited to get him last year. Kyle Vandenbosch is the new Larry Foote.

  9. Foote was the odd man out in Detroit. DeAndre Levy, Julian Peterson, and Ernie Sims are the core linebackers that the lions have. It is smarter to put your money with young talent than older guys. Lions need to put money into corners and linemen. Foote lead the lions with 99 tackles. He just wanted to much money to stay.

  10. @nobodybeatsdawiz …. sorry, but you got the point. As far as getting into any detailed contract issues, I not as well versed as you are apparently on the Cardinals situation. Just from what I’ve seen …. it doesnt appear likely that Foote will get what he’s asking for in AZ.

  11. He will resign with the Steelers. He can take his old spot back and have Timmons start taking over the role of Farrior. Farrior is the guy that roams the filed and drops into coverage. He is too slow for that anymore. Foote is only 29.

  12. Foote played solid on a defense that gave him no help last year. The lions let him go because deandre levy played like a stud last year and they want to move him to the middle since that is his best position. foote can still play…

Hey Larry, don’t let the door hit you in the ass.
After reading multiple posts of yours over the last few days i feel that I can state without any hesitation that you, sir, are a moron.

  14. Thanks for the article, MDS. Yesterday I was telling Foote to come on home to Pittsburgh. Today you’ve reminded me how and why he left and that he only managed one year with his dream team, the Lions. If Whis wants him, he’s welcome to him.
