Hargrove will visit the Lions

With one month to go until the deadline for signing restricted free agents to offer sheets, a member of the Super Bowl champs could be heading to the other end of the NFL spectrum.

Jeff Duncan of the New Orleans Times-Picayune reports that defensive lineman Anthony Hargove will visit the Lions, starting today and continuing into Tuesday.

Per Duncan, other teams also are interested.

Hargrove, a third-round pick of the Rams in 2004, isn’t an unrestricted free agent because he was suspended for all of the 2008 season due to multiple violations of the substance-abuse policy. He has made the most of his second chance in New Orleans, appearing in every game and starting six.

Hargrove played both defensive tackle and defensive end for the Saints in 2009.

Even though the Saints did not originally draft Hargrove, they were able to tender Hargrove at the level of his original draft round, which means that if they choose not to match an offer he receives from another team, they’ll receive a third-round draft pick as compensation.
