Pats officially pick up Crumpler

With no experienced tight ends on their roster after the release of Chris Baker and the departure of Benjamin Watson, the Patriots now officially have one.

Ian Rapoport of the Boston Herald reports that the teams has now officially signed tight end Alge Crumpler.

Last Thursday, it was reported that Crumpler told the Titans he’s under contract with New England.  Still, the move has not yet been announced by the team.

The four-time Pro Bowler, thanks in large part to the fact that he served as Mike Vick’s safety valve, has spent the last two seasons with the Titans.  He caught 51 passes during that time, five fewer than he did in his final Pro Bowl season of 2006.

  1. Chris Johnson is going to take a step back. He’s lossing one of the best blocking TE’s and one of the best centers in the game. He’ll still be very good but will not lead the league in rushing again this season.

  2. While Alge is a great Tight End , and there is not a damn thing bad you can say about the guy, Our TE’s behind him were starter ready which is why we felt we didnt need to spend the money on him . Jared Cook is a dynamic TE and with Britt , Titans passing game will be opened up , thus leading more opportunities for CJ to hit the secondary . Great addition Patriots , just get your boy Maroney back in the rotation – I saw him at the MusicCity Bowl when he was with Barber and they were both beasts . You guys have about 2 years to get whatever left you can and then its back to the bottom , but you guys were good .
