Santonio Holmes invites fan to commit suicide, Twitter style

Earlier today, we pointed out that Steelers receiver Santonio Holmes has been trading jabs with fans via Twitter, in the wake of Monday’s news that he has been sued for assault and battery.

We noticed, for example, that Holmes reminded one fan that the fans don’t cut Holmes’ checks.

We hadn’t noticed a far less charitable exchange with another fan.  Holmes accuses the fan of trying to make Holmes look like the bad guy, and then says that the fan “shud try finding the worst thing that you could drink n kill urself.”

Nice.

So while Holmes looks to be in the clear from the perspective of the Orlando Police Department, he’s still going to have some explaining to do to the folks who actually cut his checks.

  1. Hypothetically, if he does do that wouldn’t Holmes be accountable? Am I reaching here?

  2. I think Plex said the same thing before he left town…didn’t work out too well for him.

  3. Should he have said it? No…
Is it a big deal? No…
    words are just words…

  4. Now that’s our Super Bowl hero!! Why do we expect these thugs to be exemplary human beings just because they can run fast and catch? His parents must be so proud.

  5. Hard to believe so many athletes are still so stupid when it comes to Twitter.
Here’s a lesson for you all — never say anything negative on it about the fans, the organization, or any other players. That would save a lot of athletes a lot of trouble.

  6. The stay classy comment(s) in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1……….
    Stay classy, Santonio. Stay classy…lol

  7. What? Somebody said something stupid on Twitter? … Wait, how the heck is that news?

  8. solid work holmes. keep up that great attitude. ass.
Man do I hate this. I usually can get away with my mindless Steeler loving attitude. Spouting off about how much better my franchise and players are. Making statements that I in no way have to back up, and now they are ruining it for me. I guess all my verbal abuse of Browns and Bengals fans is finally catching up with me. QUIT BEING ASSHOLES PLAYERS!!!!!

  9. He’s a freakin thug. Perfect example of all that is wrong with the NFL. And they want MORE money?? If this guy wasn’t in the NFL he’d be in jail…wait, he might end up there anyways.

  10. I think the most revealing comment on there was when he said he was “lmao all the way to the bank” at the people criticizing him.
I’ve read of this kind of reaction from several players in trouble before when confronted: “Your’e poor, I’ve got millions so STFU”
And I think that attitude in general is indicative of why these guys keep ending up in these kinds of situations

  11. It is only because of an audience that players get paid as well as they do.
See the greater picture SH !

  12. Good one, Mr. Holmes. Way to represent your city, team, team mates, and the entire NFL.

  13. Wow! What the hell is going on in Pittsburgh. I am shocked at the number of Steeler fans that are constantly defending the actions of their players. Take off your Black and Gold blinders. It is time to question the character of the players the current regime is keeping around. Holmes needs to be let go!!!!!!

  14. What a knucklehead! You get clear of one incident and can’t keep your trap shut for a couple of days. Steelers need to do some house cleaning of morons.

  15. Hahaha. I don’t even know what to say to this. I mean all I can say is in regards to the first tweet where he claims the fans don’t cut his checks. Actually Santonio, they don’t cut them. But they do provide the funds so that check doesn’t bounce.

  16. The most alarming thing about this whole situation is Holmes’ poor spelling. There’s an Ohio State education for you…
This whole thing is a whole lot of nothing. The woman wanted paid and likely that’s what she will get.
But Florio wont let that fact be anything more than a speed bump in racing to call the Steelers the new “Bengals”…

  17. Hey Holmes, Thank you for proving the point that you are indeed an idiot and just lost your ability to have the benefit of the doubt.

  18. Am I the only one who thinks the “stay classy…” quote wasn’t funny in the movie, and is less & less funny every time someone else uses it?

  19. In some respects the fans to cut the checks. Without the fans none of this would be possible.

  20. From a Pgh online paper today…
“Since the Steelers took Holmes in the first round of the 2006 NFL draft, he has been arrested for marijuana possession, domestic assault and disorderly conduct. All of the charges were eventually dropped.”
Tone, you said fans just don’t “get it.”
    What exactly don’t we “get?”
We “get” that you are a crime waiting to happen and one lucky SOB (for now).
    Get it?

  21. Holmes is in the right in my opinion. The guy’s instigating the hell out of him. People shouldn’t be forced to hold back their words, be they spoken or typed. Just so you know, not a Steelers fan, so no “Go Steelers!” bias here…

  22. Funny someone with the name “Biggie Smalls” says words are just words….

  23. Excuse me Holmes. Ah ha, what it is bro?
Thanks for helping the Steelers win a Super Bowl. Feel free to leave now.
    Kravon
Seriously, does he want out of Pittsburgh? Does he have inside knowledge that Ben wont be back and is trying to get early? Cmon grow up already.

  24. Well if it was a Steeler fan, can you blame him?
Most of them should do that. And half of the players.

  25. This isn’t a Pittsburgh Steeler problem, this is an NFL problem. This is small and pretty insignificant in the scheme of things, but the union should probably be the one to rein these guys in and tell them to watch what they say and do. If you want to do well in the next round of collective bargaining, you need to keep your nose clean before you come to the table.

  26. Well he’s topped his previous record of ‘idiot’, gone past the nomer “nincompoop” and hightailed it all the way to “moronic fool of the universe”

  27. Im a Steelers fan and can understand the frustration Holmes has – assuming he is innocent. However, I do not condone his stupid remarks. He is just another dumb athlete that thinks he is above everyone else.
He should just grow up and be a man – I mean how old is he?
Remember Santonio, you don’t work for Cincinnati… you work for Pittsburgh you piece of crap.

  28. Twitter is getting these guys and their big mouth spouses into trouble.
He’s already on the short list because of weed now he’s running his mouth and saying stupid things. I like Holmes, his contract is up at the end of the season so don’t be surprised if theirs a draft day trade.they cant franchise him,Woodley & Ike. Sign Woodley after the draft and negotiate with Ike. I can see Holmes in Seattle,Denver,Oakland or perhaps New England & Dallas.

  29. I wonder what the fan said that launched Holmes’ tirade? I can’t get to twitter from here at work, but if anyone finds the conversation please post it.
Or just continue to post crap about something that you don’t know anything about, no biggie.

  30. It amazes me how these players keep doing stupid things and keep getting into trouble. What is so strange is because they have all graduated from universites and have degrees. They have to be intelligent to be able to study and pass test while still playing college ball. This would be hard for the average Joe!!

  31. This really isnt a big deal, hell Santonio is probably right…the guy is probably a douchenozzle

Everyone who uses Twitter should consider killing themselves.
    —————————————————-
    Well played.

  33. I’ve recently decided that I should start acting like an asshole to everyone, everywhere I go.
Why? Because time and time again it is proven that assholes are rewarded in life.
Obviously, I’m kidding (about purposely acting like an asshole)… but really, the sentiment doesn’t seem too far removed from reality.

  34. Stay classy Steeler nation!
Your team is very quickly becoming the laughing stock and joke of the NFL.
Good grief, they win the Super Bowl and they think they have the right to sexually assault and beat women. What a cesspool that franchise has quickly become.

  35. Ahh–I love this day and age we live in when a team can fall apart right before your eyes–all while NOTHING football related is going on.

  36. What he did wasn’t illegal but if being stupid was illegal, Holomes would be be doing 25 to life.
I can’t see anything good coming out of this.

  37. I’m still waiting for Santonio to get a 2nd foot down in that Super Bowl against the Cardinals.
Having one foot on top of the other does NOT equal 2 feet down. Cardinals won that Super Bowl.

  38. @ Biggie Smalls
I do agree with you… words are just words; however, apparently you and I, and anyone else that is of the same thinking, are wrong!
If you check out most news outlets, you will see that (9) people are currently being charged b/c some girl killed herself after they “verbally bullied” her via facebook/ twitter.

  39. Really…what would anyone expect him to say…ah ghee…thanks for reaming me when you know NOTHING about me and have a nice day…NOT!
It was fitting and now he’ll be sued for that and Florio can write about THAT all freaking day long!

  40. Stealer scumbags. I’m glad the rest of the league and country is finally getting a chance to see what the AFC North has known for years.

  41. This site rocks for pertinent information about the Steelers’ pending downfall. What a great job you’re doing Florio.

  42. FYI, fans do “cut his checks” We do it by buying merchandise, tix to the games, food at the games, etc….With out all that, there is no $$$ for the Steelers to be paying you with!!

  43. To hear this comming from a player with some collage education. Nothing ticks me off more than to spend half of every year cutting back on things money wise to justify my season tickets.
Heart breaking, I can’t even write straight.

  44. That is so awesome. If any of my favorite Super Bowl MVP winning Steelers twittered me to drink myself to death, I would print it out and frame it. On Black and Gold paper.
That is, if I was a total loser and I actually had a twitter account, and twittered with people, and got into “twitter-fights” with NFL players.
That is so awesome. All you other PFT losers just wish you could be fans of a class guy like Holmes, LOL.
Just think- he is our Steelers’ Super Bowl MVP – and you can’t take it away no matter how stupid he acts, LOL!!!

  45. I vote for PFT to start referring to him as “Santurdio” again. He’s obviously earned that moniker back.

    ==================================
I think they had some kinda secret meeting with the Miami Dolphins…

  47. Never dreamed as a life long Bengals fan, I would be thinking “thank G I’m not a Steelers fan”.
You have to wonder if some of this has to do with Cowher not being there any more. That was one intense dude. I can’t see him putting up with much of this garbage.
Have to think there is about to be a backlash of discipline in Pitts. Too good of a franchise to put up with this for long.

  48. “It is only because of an audience that players get paid as well as they do.
See the greater picture SH !”
Very much agreed. Are you retarded Santonio? Did you miss the memo? With no fans, there’s no money being paid to the organizations that pay your salary. We may not cut your checks directly, but we put those checks in your bosses checkbooks to write you. Moron. So how about you stop suggesting that the people who ACTUALLY pay your salary off themselves? It might work in your best interest.

  49. LOL @ the outrage. I think by now I’ve told the entire internet to kill itself or die burning in a fire.

  50. And this is how gossip journalists get away with posting whatever the hell they want. Once it’s been determined that their many and hurried assumptions have been proved false, they divert the negative attention to the guy’s name they just sullied.
    Nice.

Steeler players and their fans have always been hillbilly toothless mountain people with NO brains or ability to make intelligent decisions. F PUKESBURGH

  52. I hate the steelers…..
Santonio should have been more responsible. He should have just deleted his twitter account, or put it under a different name for his family and friends. People are obviously going to say stuff to get him pissed off, trying to get him to say something stupid. They win. He fails.

  53. Santionio.
Meet Mr. Suspension and his twin brother Mr. Fine.
Conduct detrimental to the team/league/human race.
You’re brother Ben will be introduced to the twins too.

  54. There is absolutely no way the league lets him get away with that without a huge fine btw.

I didn’t realize he was being arrested or in other way restricted by the government.
I mean, he must be if it’s a freedom of speech issue, right? Either that or you have no idea what it means.

  56. I’m a Browns fan, but it’s sad to see the state of the Steelers. They are such a proud franchise, ad were 1 of 2 tlteams to say moving te Browns to Baltimore was wrong . I hate the Steelers, but respect them. Come on Rooney, get rid of the trash on your team!! (besides, the 2 biggest pieces of crap are pretty damned good, and ditching them would really help Cleveland)
    Go Browns!

  57. Actually Mr. Homles…, the fans do pay your salary. Indirectly, but still.
The salaries are paid from money pulled from the TV contract. The TV contract is based on ratings. Ratings are translated into time value which is then sold to companies trying to reach this vast consumer audience. The ad revenue generated by this time value goes to the broadcasting companies who laid down huge chunks of change to secure the broadcast rights in the TV Contract.
All of this is based on the active NFL fan-base, which proactively consumes products of the NFL sponsors, which we see aired on our local NFL broadcast, or in promotions/advertisements that we see in all of our gameday experiences, in or away from the stadium. Stadiums.., I should point out, that are paid for mostly by local taxes, full of people paying good money to come see the games. Games.., I could point out.., which can be played very easily without dumb-ass, douchbags like Santonio Holmes, and players like him, who have so little regard for the very people who directly/indirectly support him.
So Mr. Holmes…, enough of the ‘fans don’t pay my salary’ bullshit. Without the huge NFL fanbase.., you’d be absolutely nothing. Or if you want to look at it another way…, without the huge fanbase.., you wouldn’t have a game to play and then you would be one of us.

  58. Didnt Judas Priest get their ass stapled to the wall for a lot less than this? “Do It”? wasnt that it that made those kids kill themselves. Just made me screw a bunch of high school girls. Santonio, make it a bit more subtle. You are now bad for the NFL. So is Ban Rothlisberger.

  59. “trickbunny says: March 30, 2010 3:42 PM

Isn’t that what you’ve been doing all along?

  60. If the Steelers purged the team of any player that falls under the category of criminal, moron, or both, they wouldnt be able to field a game day roster….

  61. Steelers are a real class act LOL Anytime anyone mentions Steelers as a classy organization in the future I am going to laugh in their face. I used to buy into it but the players they are employing are far worse than the majority of other teams these days so that reputation is gone. I would go as far as to say they are worse than the Bengals these days…

  62. Why would he open himself up for that? He knows a negative spotlight is on the Steelers and that he just made it burn brighter. He knows the fans are unhappy. So why not shut down his Twitter account until things have cooled off? Why would he want to read the inevitable criticism of his recent actions, much less respond to it? Since he doesn’t have the sense to put it away, the Steelers need to confiscate his toy.

  63. @Ollie
You reallythink half of these guys graduate or go to class and take a test in anything difficult?

  64. @favrecansuckit
“Everyone who uses Twitter should consider killing themselves.”
    Nice..

  65. It’s a figure of speech. It’s a new phrase for saying “Shut the hell up.”
Doesn’t cover up the fact that it was a stupid thing to say, but I thought I’d explain it for those who might LITERALLY think he means for the fan to kill himself. Gotta keep you urban deficient readers up on the Hip-Hop lexicon of today.
p.s. Jiggy is not said anymore. If you are still saying that word, kill yourself. (see, I just used it in a sentence).

  66. Mike, you are a journalist, right? I mean, you understand the issue of integrity and responsible reporting, right?
Let me get this straight: unlike the Roethlisberger story, this one’s a slam dunk. Even TMZ has the actual story from Orlando PD.
So, either you think the cops are lying, are deliberately slandering Holmes or have some bone to pick with the Steelers and/or their fans.
This is so outrageously yellow in terms of journalism that it boggles the mind. How far down in the gutter will you go for “a story”???

  67. i wonder what these ppl who follow a twitter page of someone they hate said to him on twitter while hiding behind there cell phones.musta been pretty bad, considering his respone.hey,if u dont like the guy then why are you stalking him?? LMAO!!

  68. Didn’t Mark Twain say something like:
“Better to keep your mouth closed and be thought a fool than to open it and remove all doubt”?
I can’t believe how mad this makes me.
All of us as fan’s, I believe would be thankful and appreciative if we had the skills to be such.
Think of the people that work customer service that don’t make any money and have to put up with assholes all day long and still they keep a smile on there face and truly represent their company or industry.

Nice soapbox. So are you going to boycott the NFL until Holmes gets released? Shyea like he wouldn’t get scooped up somewhere else.

  70. TO and Ochocinco say stupid stuff on Twitter everyday. Why don’t you pick on them? Oh that’s right, they’re not Steelers! Haters gonna hate.

  71. I see the Holier than Thou crew is alive n well on PFT.. I bet none of you have EVER said something to someone you wish you could take back huh?
Then again im all for FREE SPEECH. If someone would kill their selves over a strangers words then i would have to think they have way bigger issues than twitter.

  72. Has anyone read the daily hate that goes on at this site?
Santonio didn’t say anything worse than all the haters here. Oh, boo hoo! WAAAAHHHHHH! Santonio said mean things. Who cares. Wussies.
It’s not like he killed someone like Ray Lewis or Donte Stallworth. A woman wrongly accused him of throwing the glass. She said she would not prosecute and refused medical attention. Now after Ben’s troubles, another woman realized that all you have to do is make an accusation. It’s that easy.

  73. Santurdio strikes again!
But seriously, what is it with recent game-winning TD-catching WRs? Plaxico Burress….shoots himself in leg with concealed firearm, then goes to jail. Santurdio….charges, telling fans off because their money doesn’t pay his check (um…?) and telling a fan to kill himself.
Makes this guy and the Steelers hard to pull for.
(Not that I do – I’m a Saints fan – but you know what I mean.)

  74. I don’t think they’re necessarily a “fan” of him if they’re busting his balls about this BS on Twitter. Just goes to show you how many losers come on anonymous message boards to talk $hit about other teams and their fans and make themselves feel better about their miserable lives… Oh wait..

  75. Hopefully a fine is assessed. And, if I were the Steelers and Roger Goodell, I would send the fan a portion of that fine and tell “Stay Classy” Santonio that fans may not cut the check, but they are the bank where the money comes from.
What an ignorant person… Considering the money we all invest in this sport, comments like this and actions like Rapistberger, as well as the owners and player talking lockout, why do we fans not take the stand against sports? We should band together, lock them out of our living rooms and ourselves out of their stadiums, jerseys, apparel, etc, and lets see how well they operate without us fans.
I am personally sick of all these rich and overpaid pieces of shit!

You use to be really bad when it came to calling the Steelers out but you seem to have made an adjustment as of late.
I mean you can still see it but its not as bad. If a Browns player or Ravens player told a fan to kill themselves we would of had to read a 5 page article about why that is uncalled for. Especially saying so right after getting in trouble with the law. But atleast you didnt stick up for him even though all you said was Nice.

  81. Come to Pittsburgh, the land of rapists, thugs and junkies who will tell you to commit suicide. This franchise seems to be taking a turn for the worse.

  82. Too bad these two steelers can’t realize if they just stay out of trouble and keep their yap shut they are a lock for the HOF. Sooo sick of these guys not realizing what they have. Holmes and Big Ben on the field- Hall of Fame- off the field- Hall of Shame.

Ooh! Zing! I had *no idea* that anyone would type a response like yours when I made my post. ha ha… And of course, by “no idea”, I mean that I was expecting it pretty much word for word. Way to be that moron who winds up being the predictable response.
It must suck going through life as predictble as the sunrise and about as funny as cancer. But hey, there’s no end to the idiots like you on PFT who fall into the trap every single time.

  86. “TO and Ochocinco say stupid stuff on Twitter everyday. Why don’t you pick on them? Oh that’s right, they’re not Steelers! Haters gonna hate.”
Do they tell fans that they are insignificant due to the fact they don’t “cut” checks and then reccomend that they kill themselves? Has nothing to do with him being a Steeler moron.

  87. Tone can be thuggish at times, gets a little off track. But damn, he can sure keep those toes in when it counts.
I wonder what the person said on Twitter to Santonio that he responded like that? Maybe we should spend more time analyzing THEM as well.

  88. Apparently, Holmes is accusing the complainant of calling him the “n” bomb. Of course he does. Does it really matter if the complainant is black also, like she is.

  89. This is really going to be an interesting season for the Steelers. All these distractions…
Ben is guilty of using poor judgement regarding how he entertains himself. Will he learn? If he likes women, could it be time to settle down or at least go with the type that you can court before having sex with?…
Holmes proves how idiotic a lot of athletes are. Twitter is for teenage girls. Very useful for following the Jonas Brothers and other teen heart throbs.
But for athletes, it’s just another venue for them to get into trouble. And now Goodell is going to probably want him to come to the carpet so he can remind him that fans DO have something to do with him being where he is.
    Idiot.

  90. there’s a tendency by the public to grossly overestimate NFLers intelligence… as if when youve got some bucks, ego, or fame, that doubles your IQ
Twitter is the stupidest thing ever to get involved with: detsroyed careers, PR nightmares, destruction of alibis, embarrassing details in a drunk moment… all to be posted for all time in the blink of an eye for free…. where do we sign up….

  91. Careful, Chap, that response leaves you open to a little pot/kettle calling on the subject of brightness. For one thing, fat jokes are a bit … fourth grade. By all reports, Ben didn’t get wasted. And not even exceptionally gifted people could tell by looking at a woman if she were 20 or 21. So for you to read all those articles on Roethlisberger and come away with the understanding that “Fat Ben got wasted with an underage girl” makes you seem not too bright 😉

  92. Most of you morons only wish you had a 2 time superbowl winning QB and a superbowl mvp to bitch about.

My point is simply this, if he was bright then he wouldn’t even put himself in that situation until he settlles his other incident at the very least. And since most football “jabs” amongst friends are rather childish in nature, why can’t he be “fat Ben?” I mean he is fat.

  97. I have to laugh at these clowns. Most are to stupid to see that most will have a few years of thinking they are God only to fall bt the way side.

“NFL player Santonio Holmes tells a JR High-Schooler to commit suicide, story at top of the hour.”

  99. He isn’t a thug. A thug wouldn’t even know what a Twitter account is. He is just another wannabe tough guy.

  100. So, to summarize:
The police report comes out and it basically debunks the civil lawsuit. Santonio gets frustrated with the people that assumed he was guilty and Twitters it. And now, since the hordes of haters don’t have a legitimate gripe, they decide to be upset about the Twitter thing. And you people are posting for Pittsburg to stay classy? All I see are a lot of glass houses………

  101. blitzburgh1 says most of you morons wish you had a 2 time winning Super Bowl QB and Super Bowl MVP to bitch about.
Great point BUT I raise you a with a 3 time winning Super Bowl QB and Super Bowl MVP AND A League MVP . And that QB has not been “accused” of sexually molesting at least two women.

  102. @Chapnasty2 …
I was jabbing–that’s why I made the winky face. He could use a trainer. Since he’s missing team workouts, I hope he’s got one at home working with him. Yes, I’ve done my fair share of screaming “why why why” about his decision to check out the Millegeville clubs that night.
On the other hand, put yourself in his shoes:
You know you didn’t rape Andrea McNulty. You know she’s trying to scam you for $3 mil. People have started coming forward refuting her story. You’ve got text messages, e-mails. You’re feeling confident she’s going to be exposed for what she is. You’re out with your buds, a couple of cops in the group, girls are throwing themselves all over you (by all accounts). You and this chick have been getting friendly all night (by all accounts) and something happens between you. There is noooo way you think she’s going to walk out of there and tell a cop you assaulted her. Nooo way.
The guys who were in the bar when the cops showed told reporters he was in shock when they told him about the allegation. Most people who assault someone wouldn’t just sit in the bar waiting for all hell to break loose.
He probably figured nothing like Nevada would EVER happen to him again. But Andrea McNulty painted a great big target on his back. Now any woman can point a finger at him and every nitwit in the world will go “Duh, where there’s smoke, there’s fire!”–making it really easy for any woman to collect. And the exact same thing could have happened if he’d been having a quiet dinner at home with a 28-year-old Sunday-School teacher. She could have left his house, gone to a cop, and said, “He sexually manipulated me.” There’s no DNA–it’s her word against his. So he’s damned no matter what he does.

  103. Let the countdown begin to the “Someone hacked my Twitter account” excuse that everyone seems to use when they say something stupid!

  104. I’m a steeler fan and proud of it, always will be. The last month has been really hard to swallow, but if anyone really thinks this is indicative of one team or another, then they are lost. It’s hard to say what the steelers should do, Ben….we don’t know if he’s just stupid or criminal…have to wait and see. Holmes….same thing, and now he’s spraying his and ignorance all over, I would dump him now. That’s blatant public abuse where as Ben’s attitude is all second hand-although probably true. If he blatantly said the same things, he’d have to go imo. But to suggest the Steelers are a dirty franchise because of these two knuckleheads is ridiculous. If they went out and signed guys knowing they had done these things, then yeah , but what other franchise is dumping there two biggest offensive stars and setting their franchise back years? None that I know of. And I promise you most teams have these sorts of characters.

  105. Steeler Nation will remember the 2010 offseason the way Germans remember the years 1941 through 1945.

  106. I’m sure the guy was egging him on but you really shouldn’t joke about stuff like that. It makes him sound like a douchebag, which I’m sure he is. That Steelers team has been full of douchebaggery lately. The next thing you know a youtube video will pop up of Troy Polomalu beating an autistic kid with a bag of newborn puppies.

  107. Who wants to bet he says” you know” at least twice in each sentence. I say the over/under on Holmes using ” you know” in a five minute conversation is 75. I’ve noticed the dumber the athlete, the more they use” you know” after every other word.

  108. It’s time to cut Holmes before he shoots a hole in his leg with an illegal concealed weapon.

Well put. I’d like to know what the guy said to Holmes to get that reaction. But of course that doesn’t matter because Holmes is rich so he’s automatically at fault.
Florio, there is a special place in hell for your kind. If you can sleep at night practicing this brand of journalism then you are more screwed up than I thought.

  113. First off, for anyone to say this wouldn’t have happened under Cowher is ridiculous. You don’t remember the Kordell circus? Please, save the racist slant.
Secondly, I’d have believed the Ravens would win the AFC North before all of this transpired. We can all agree on one thing—the Bengals will return to form next year at 6-10. But now, I have no doubt these episodes will strengthen the resolve of this team, especially if linemen and DBs come into the picture via the draft.
Write it down, Steelers 13-3 this year.

  115. What ever happened to the Bill of Rights? I mean these “fans” have a right to spread what ever negative slander they wish, but a star speaking negatively is demanded to “account” for his/ her words!?! How is that justified?

Just one question. Do your kids know what you do for a living? I mean, do they really understand?
How can you look at them across the dinner table knowing what you had to do today to put food on it?

  118. Why is it that the small minded all seem to live in the Boston-NYC corridor. ampats, ever the fool, will keep pointing to his QB as a stand-up guy, a man who “never raped anyone” and has won 3 championships. How convenient that yet another of the mentally incontinent crowd from New England slurs Roethlisberger but fails to mention how Brady got his girlfriend pregnant and then unceremoniously dumped her.
Yeah ampats, what a guy you have there. And with the attitude problem over at wideout, gee, we Pittsburghers only wish we could trade places with you.
Knowing what we do about players from New England, Baltimore, Cincy and Minny, how can any fan of those teams talk without embarrassing themselves?

  119. @ Deb
The following is from an article on ESPN regarding a recent party at the playboy mansion.
    “Party Hard, Party Safe
With the mix of girls, NFL players and an anything-goes-vibe in a legendary party atmosphere, the subject of the woes of Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was not far from the minds of many players. It just wasn’t on their tongues. There seemed to be an unspoken code of silence players followed and most were reluctant to comment on Big Ben’s legal troubles.
“I don’t know the particulars of his situation but hopefully he can get through it,” said Hamlin. “He’s one of the faces of the league so it’s a tough situation for everyone.”
Despite the endless flow of Patron and the player-friendly environment, most players approached the night cautiously. Many felt the best way to stay away from unwanted trouble when they ventured out was to bring a trusted friend to watch the people watching them. A few even had style-cramping agents in tow to look out for their well-being.
“But we’re adults and we’re ultimately responsible for our own actions,” says Hamlin. “We’re at the Mansion to have fun, so you just want to enjoy it and get out of here safe.”
This is exactly how athletes should act

  120. As a Steeler fan I can honeslty say I hope the team cuts this guy. He has always come across as an ass. In 4 years with the team he has had 4 issues involving the law. He gets in trouble more often than Ben though not as severe. I think the team could make a good example out of him. Honestly if it wasnt for the one great catch in the super bowl, this guy would have nothing. Nobody ever talks about it, but it was Holmes who dropped a sure touchdown in the superbowl on the play right before the great catch. If Ben doesnt go back to him he would have been rememberd as the guy who either lost the game, or almost lost the game if someone else had scored.
Look at his career stats. He has only once put up more than 5 touchdowns in a season and that was 3 years ago. He has only once put up over a thousand yards and I bet you next year when his contract is up that he starts looking for 20 million or more in guarenteed money. If the team signs him like that then they are headed in the wrong direction. They need to cut him, make Mike Wallace their number 2, Randel El their number 3 and spend one more season on Sweed. Holmes has a ton of potential but I dont think he will ever reach it with his big head weighing him down.

  121. DoctorK,

You’ll never guess what her (actually two) “brushes” (read, “arrests”) involved.

    1. Domestic violence (Imagine my surprise!)
    2. Dispute over a seat at UCF stadium that she refused to vacate and for which she did not have a ticket. (If this was a Hollywood script…)
Now then, I still think Tone is a crime waiting to happen and sooner or later he’ll be convicted of something. But for the time being, his only “crime” in this lastest episode is stoopidity. (See also “Big Ben.”)

Truth be told, I personally don’t care how many women TB love’s n’ leaves. He can spread his dna all over New England if he wants, because he’s Tom F’n Brady.
But your implication in the second quote, is really close to what you are vehemently denying in the first quote.

  134. I see TEE DRAPER’S point about how fans have too much mouth these days… But honestly, they had WAY more mouth back in the day. Santonio has gotta be either A) RETARDED or B) DEAF & BLIND … I mean he’s a grown ass man, & with the light on him and the entire steelers organization right now, you think he would just walk a straight line, wait for this to kinda fade away and then be normal again.

He had that in Georgia. He had two current–not retired or former, but current–COPS in tow and by all reports they were sober. Why the heck do you think they were there? So that’s exactly how athletes should behave? Then why was he damned by so many on the Flacco thread for traveling with an entourage instead of going solo like Flacco does?
You think the trusted friends should watch EVERY minute … even during the moment he’s becoming intimate with a woman? Do you know many women who’d go along with that? And wouldn’t the media have a field day with the idea of his entourage watching his every move … literally?
Like I said, damned no matter what he does. And the reason the athletes at that party were so uncomfortable is THEY know it could happen to any one of them even if the general public is too stupid to get it.

Good grief, calm down … and pick up some books on Steeler and NFL history.
Ever hear of Ernie “Fats” Holmes, an original member of the 70s Steel Curtain? Ever hear of how he tried to shoot a police helicopter out of the sky? The Steelers have had plenty of wild ones in the past and so have all the other teams … going back to the days of leather helmets.
Why don’t you rent THE pro football movie: “North Dallas Forty,” based on the book and screenplay by one-time Dallas receiver Peter Gent. That’s a colorful look behind the scenes at Landry’s, um, choirboys. And Max McGee of the Pack was half drunk when he scored the first Super Bowl touchdown.
People want to believe football players used to be Boy Scouts and the Steelers were the Scoutmasters. Wrong. Those guys weren’t perfect and these guys aren’t the scum of the earth. Santonio acted like an idiot but the girl doesn’t sound like a prize either. And so far no one’s presented a thimbleful of evidence that Ben has assaulted anyone.
