Bears announce release of defensive end Alex Brown

As expected, the Chicago Bears have released defensive end Alex Brown.

The eight-year veteran, who joined the team via the fourth-round of the 2002 draft, appeared in 127 games, starting 107 of them.

In 2006, he was a first alternative for the Pro Bowl. The following year, he was a second alternate.

He’s now an unrestricted free agent, able to sign with any team -- including the “Final Eight” teams, given that he achieved his status via the termination of his contract.
