McNabb trade proves that football never takes a day off

So I was spending Easter evening with my wife’s family, and the texts and e-mails started to arrive on the Sprint device, making the thing bust like a nest full of bumblebees.

Donovan McNabb is no longer an Eagle. Amazingly, he’s a Redskin.

The real message? The NFL doesn’t take a day off. Ever.

The move also vindicates the strong feelings we’ve had since coach Andy Reid declared that McNabb would still be the starter in 2010. We said we wouldn’t believe it until McNabb gets a contract extension. More than a week ago, we determined that a trade was inevitable.

The fact that McNabb is a Redskin also vindicated information man extraordinaire Jay Glazer, who dropped a Saturday bombshell by reporting that the two sides had been talking. Glazer was getting killed by many Eagles and Redskins fans who believed he was making it up and/or flat-out wrong.

Meanwhile, the 2010 season suddenly got a hell of a lot more interesting.
