McNabb trade proves that football never takes a day off

So I was spending Easter evening with my wife’s family, and the texts and e-mails started to arrive on the Sprint device, making the thing bust like a nest full of bumblebees.

Donovan McNabb is no longer an Eagle.   Amazingly, he’s a Redskin.

The real message?  The NFL doesn’t take a day off.  Ever.

The move also vindicates the strong feelings we’ve had since coach Andy Reid declared that McNabb would still be the starter in 2010.  We said we wouldn’t believe it until McNabb gets a contract extension.  More than a week ago, we determined that a trade was inevitable

The fact that McNabb is a Redskin also vindicated information man extraordinaire Jay Glazer, who dropped a Saturday bombshell by reporting that the two sides had been talking.  Glazer was getting killed by many Eagles and Redskins fans who believed he was making it up and/or flat-out wrong.

Meanwhile, the 2010 season suddenly got a hell of a lot more interesting.

  1. Glazer is one of the few “insiders” I still trust

  2. I’m sorry, Florio, but what does any of this have to do with Tim Tebow? Shame on you for dropping the ball. The PFTebow I know HAS to be working on some type of manufactured story about how this trade affects his chances of landing with either team.

  3. You guys are slacking off on the McNabb trade talk.
Write some articles about it already.

  4. The big winner in this deal are the Eagle Fans. They have been screaming to get rid of McNabb for a long time.
Hey Eagle fans – ou happy now?, ROTFLMAO
    I doubt it.
Rumor has it that the Eagles have petitioned the league office to see if they can trade their fans….lol

  5. This trade proves my theory that business minds in this country aren’t necessarily “business” minds.
How in the hell is McDrabb worth a 2nd, 3rd and whatever IN DIVISION, and Brett Favre is worth a 4th, OUT OF CONFERENCE???
    It’s utterly mind-boggling.

  6. Mr. Florio: I apologize. I was wrong and you were right. I cannot believe they traded DNabb, stumped doesn’t begin to illustrate my demeanor right now.
At the end of the day, I was wrong, wrong, wrong on this one.
That’s 2 years in a row that the Eagles’ qb decisions absolutely put me into a funk. At least this time I have a few extra months to get my head around this………

  7. So what this means is the Seahawks could of traded for Donovan instead of Whitehurst, for pretty much the exact same price….
and then could of traded Hass for another draft pick this year.
Now we lose our chance at the top two OT’s as the Skins no longer need Clausen and we probably take Okung.
Oh, crap and now they may draft Clausen, which would be the biggest mistake of all!
Damn, yeah another ‘no-news’ day in the NFL!

  8. I was just looking back over the several stories on this trade and noticed that everybody seems to be happy. Reid says he’s excited about Kolb taking over, Donovan is happy to be a redskin.
Hey Eagle fans, are you happy too?
    LOL…idiots

  9. uuuh yeah and it kinda vindicates G Cobb’s report that Kolb was getting an exstension, a report you blasted and made a mockery of.

  10. Right, you knew the trade was coming… But didn’t know what we all wanted to know…where? You did push hard for Oakland eh?

  11. Glazer needs a raise. Last year he breaks Favre a week earlier and ESPN runs his name in the report when there guys don’t back it up, now this. Damn he’s good.

  13. How many “headlines” are we going to make of this trade? O/U starts at 25.

  14. I wonder if your sponsor would enjoy your use of the word “bust” in reference to their product that you use.

  15. I’m calling BS on any crap sprint device receiving a message within 4 hours of it being sent. You must have a cell tower sitting on your roof if that’s not the case.

  16. Mattyku. The point is that the NFL never takes a day off, jackass. Its in the headline.

  18. Sorry Florio you cant claim that you were right about Mcnabb being traded.
You have said since the 2008 off-season that Mcnabb wouldnt be on the team the following year. You were wrong in 08-09 and 09-10. Yes you got it right this time but being wrong so many times before that cancels it out.
I can do that to its really easy. Here Ill try 1 for ya. Peyton Manning will retire this off-season. Now I believe if Manning plays this year I will be wrong. But if I use your logic and I say it every year until he finally does retire I will be vindicated when it happens. Even though by the time he actually does retire I would have been wrong about 5 times the fact that I got it right once wipes out the times I got it wrong.
    Ya Florio great logic.

  19. Eagles will need a huge bounce back from their defense and a much larger contribution from the running game if they want to get their typical 9, 10 or 11 wins this year.

  20. If you are finished patting yourself on the back can we get back to Tim Tebow now?
I’m sure you have some other news we could care less about to report. Hell, just do what you normally do..make the stuff up!
