Jets no longer interested in Laveranues Coles

Yesterday PFT’s Gregg Rosenthal noted that wide receiver Laveranues Coles is among a number of big names still available in free agency. And we’ve previously mentioned the possibility of Coles returning to the Jets.

But the Jets’ acquisition of former Steelers wide receiver Santonio Holmes apparently means Coles will have to look elsewhere for employment in 2010.

Rich Cimini of the New York Daily News reports that the Jets have all but eliminated the possibility of signing Coles.

Coles was released by the Bengals prior to the start of free agency and is still an unrestricted free agent. In 2009 in Cincinnati he caught 43 passes for 514 yards, his lowest totals since his rookie year.

The Jets cut Coles last year after he agreed to give up $6 million guaranteed in exchange for having the final year of his contract voided. Coles was drafted by the Jets in 2000, signed with the Redskins in 2003 and was traded back to the Jets in 2005 before leaving in 2009.
