Rooney says Roethlisberger discipline will come from Steelers

In a Thursday afternoon press conference regarding the status of quarterback Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, president Art Rooney II said the Steelers are prepared to impose discipline against Roethlisberger “at this point.”

The full text of the statement Rooney read has been posted at the team’s web site.

Rooney added that the punishment would come the week after the draft at the earliest, and that it would be coordinated with the league.  As a result, there will be only one punishment.

Under the Collective Bargaining Agreement, a team may impose a maximum sanction of four games without pay.  Rooney said that Roethlisberger has indicated a willingness to accept whatever punishment is imposed.

This development apparently means that the league will not be disciplining Roethlisberger under the Personal Conduct Policy, which means that the NFL won’t have to create a new precedent based on suspending players who has never been arrested nor charged.  The Steelers have no authority to discipline a player under the league’s Personal Conduct Policy.

Rooney also said that Roethlisberger was permitted to rejoin the offseason workout program after the team concluded that the quarterback was truly contrite.

“We believe that each of our players not only has a responsibility to live up to the highest standards on the field, but equally high standards off the field,” Rooney said.

It sounds good.  But it’s not the standard that the team has applied in the past.  Previously, the Steelers have at times used a double standard, ignoring the off-field issues of key players and swiftly cutting ties with marginal players who get in trouble.  Moving forward, the Steelers must be committed to holding all players to the same standard.

  1. This leaves the door open for Rooney to trade the fat bastard before the draft and let the next team deal with his habitual rapes.

  2. They should get one of those English chicks that do the S&M stuff. Put on a little plaid skirt and some heels and whip Ben’s butt with a riding crop.
    That would teach him!

  3. I haven’t heard the full text of Rooney’ s statement, so I don’t know if he addressed any trade rumors. But wouldn’t it make sense for the team to say they will be imposing discipline after the draft if they were open to trading the guy? That way, if they don’t have to go on record with any punishment (i.e. if he’s traded), they don’t have to. And if Ben were going to be traded, logically it would be in conjunction with the draft just days away. That doesn’t mean that a trade is a foregone conclusion, obviously, but it might indicate that the Steelers are actually willing to listen to offers for him.

  4. Different infractions do not warrant the same penalty.
They just traded a Super Bowl MVP – a key player.
    Get a clue.
    Ben gets two games.

  5. That’s not reality. The Steelers must do what’s best for the organization not what the public or bloggers think.

  6. Not what I hoped for…just what I expected…continue the dog & pony show…and phony up concern and contrition. No one other than dumbass Stiller fans are buying this BS….the non-dumb-ass Stiller fans will be the one still expressing shame, embarassment and a desire to be rid of this turd! The dumb-ass Stiller fans (and man are there lots of them), will be calling all the decent members of society Haters & fooling themselves into buying the same old organization BS that they live by a higher standard…the only time the Steelers were “higher” was when they fraudulently won 4 Lombardis on drugs! Don’t ask me…I’m a Ravens fan. Ask the many former Steeler players who have admitted it!!!

  7. Once again Florio, the Rooneys are diciplining someone who has not even been charged with any crime.
You and the haters want punishment but only because you feel he’s guilty, not b/c he is guilty.

  8. Who cares if they have a double standard, name me an organization that doesnt. Die hard Steelers fan, I would be okay if they traded him, whatever is best for the team but I think we do realize the guy is a winner and even though he is a dumb a$$

  9. “But it’s not the standard that the team has applied in the past. Previously, the Steelers have at times used a double standard, ignoring the off-field issues of key players and swiftly cutting ties with marginal players who get in trouble. Moving forward, the Steelers must be committed to holding all players to the same standard.”
Right, they should be like the other 31 NFL teams and not cut mediocre players or good players who get into trouble. Or be like the Bengals and Jets and actively accumulate players with legal issues.

  10. Enough of this double standard soap box of yours!!!!!!!!!!!!ofcourse their is a double standard that is the way it is everywhere in the world..in a perfect world yeah there wouldnt be put that isnt the case

  11. Shows you how much respect that the league has for the Rooneys.
This is the best organization in sports because of this family. That is the reason why Rooney sits on every critical NFL committee that there is.
Ben shouldn’t be disciplined in my opinion (allegations are not charges) but if something is going to happen it should come from the team.

  12. I agree with the discipline. I would also add Ben be made to go to counseling. But I’m glad this situation got resolved

  13. make him watch 4 weeks of “the view” or “larry king live” non stop…that will fix him.

  14. “which means that the NFL won’t have to create a new precedent based on suspending players who has never been arrested nor charged”
should be – which means that the NFL won’t have to create a new precedent based on suspending players who have never been arrested nor charged
and I believe you said you had some guy proof-reading your posts ?

  15. Seems pretty obvious the Steelers are waiting for a trade before the draft. If nobody comes calling then they keep him and suspend him.

  16. Every team in the NFL uses different methods based on importance of player….That wont change

  17. ….”To sum up, anything more serious than kicking in a door to smack around your girlfriend, or leaving your toddlers with deranged pitbulls, will be met with swift and severe response. Thank you for coming here today.”.

  18. Rapistberger is suspended to do what? Rape again? Squeelers screwed up. They should have cut bait. The Denise DICKson era will have to wait. It will be great when the Squeelers don’t make playoffs again this year.

    ——————————–
I doubt the old man even knows what that is.

  20. They should move him now when he still has value.
I have a felling someone is going to dig up a long history of this behavior, possibly some sort of records about incidents during his time in college and possibly even High School.
Plus all the pro ho’s that want to trump something up for cash will be making a play at the man.
Like M. Vick this is/was not a mistake, this is a behaviorally defect generally found in people who have been treated likes GOD’s for most of their lives.

  21. @steelmen95
A winner in what??? He molests drunk college girls in bathroom stalls with a bodyguard protecting him.
So how is he a winner? Oh I forgot, you’re just another stupid, ignorant steeler fan that only cares about on-the-field performance.

  22. He actually addressed the “double standard”. Admitting that the players ability is relevant, because they want to have a winning product, and balance that ability with whether or not they can clean up their act.

  23. Florio, who are you to tell a football organization what they can and can’t do??
“Moving forward, the Steelers must be committed to holding all players to the same standard.”
Dude, where do you get off? You think that becuase you run an MS-Dos based football website you have some kind of authority to tell an organization what they can and cannot do? Get a grip, guy. And then go out and get a decent haircut.

  24. ‘the quarterback was truly contrite.’
contrite: Feeling regret and sorrow for one’s sins or offenses
Ben’s version of contrite: regret for being accused and sorrow that he can’t get bj’s in public places anymore or else he loses his job and/or goes to jail.
For some reason, I feel there is a slight difference between the original meaning and Ben’s feelings.

  25. Easily the best way to handle it. The Steelers can suspend him and look good, the NFL dodges a HUGE bullet to keep from directly disciplining a player in the abscence of actual criminal charges.

  26. @steelman95
I am soooooooo tired of all the dumping on our team. I hope they use all this abuse to terrorize the league this year and get the 7th ring.
    Go Steelers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  27. C. Bass, which would make you more angry? Your daughter not getting Ben’s autograph after he diddled her in the woman’s bathroom stall or her not getting pregnant with Ben’s baby?
    Same question for you steelmen95.
Some folk give sports fans a bad name.
    Idiots!

  28. Why do they need to hold all players to the same standard?
It’s not like any other franchise does.

  29. “Moving forward, the Steelers must be committed to holding all players to the same standard.”
Moving forward, I think I’ll let the Steelers make the decisions of what standards are best for the Steelers, and Florio should worry what standards are best for this degenerative rumormill of a website.

  30. They’re going to give him 4 games, and millions of dollars over the remainder of his contract. Oh, it’s good to be king.

  31. There are a bunch of Raven fans on here taking the only chance they’ve had in years to take shots on the Steelers. Lets not forget that you have a murderer playing middle linebacker for you. I’ve heard it 1,000 times when confronted about your beloved Ray Ray I always hear the same answer…”He wasn’t convicted of anything”…Funny when the shoe is on the other foot you are the 1st to jump on the “Rapeistberger” band wagon. Classless fans to go along with a classless organization!!

  32. @turkish91 … Rooney said the team has no discussions with any team about a trade and his comments made it seem like there is no way they will trade Roethlisberger.
@MSWRavens … I am a Steelers fan and don’t consider myself a ‘dumb-ass’ fan, but i will say this: I always discount ANY critical comments about how the Steelers organization or their fans treat any of their players who are suspected of wrong-doing when it comes from a Ravens fan, whose team and fans have litterally licked the sweat off the balls of one Ray Lewis, whose crime is the ultimate crime. Period.

  33. “Rich people don’t go to jail”
    -Charles Barkley
Anyone who thinks that this joker could have been called out for doing the same horrible things and then gotten off the hook without catching a case TWICE without somebody getting a nice fat check is an idiot. Look at it from the point of view of Ben’s victims. They can either embarrass themselves and be dragged through the mud by Pig Ben and his high profile legal counsel or they can take the check and try to move on with their lives. They know that no one is going to win the judgement they would like in a case against a wealthy star athlete in court (see also: Ray Lewis, O.J., Dante Stallworth). The truth is Ben should rot. For longest time he was just a prick. Now he’s a prick and a rapist, or at least an attempted one. Naive and delusional Steeler fans (I’m not saying you all are but you have to be disappointed in some of your pals who have this guys back) need accept that simple truth.

  34. Stoolers will be lucky to go 6-10 this year. Secondary sucks even when polamalu isn’t hurt. Running game aint what it used to be, pass blocking still sucks, Harrison looks like he’s off the roids after signing that fat contract. Santonio is gone and now Pig Pen is out at least 4 games. I’ll take “THE RAPIST” for 500 trebek! lol
    WHO-DEY

  35. @C.Bass.
We love to continue hearing your whining and bitching. We are not haters and your QB is a total tool who just paid off a 20 year old Georgia chick.

  36. Steeler4life,
The owners WILL do what the public wants because it is the PUBLIC that pays for them! You really think they don’t care what the fans think? You’re on crack!
Let’s see, how many chances does Ben get? 14 or 15 maybe? However it is interesting they are going to hold off punishment till after the draft. Clearly they see someone they REALLY want and are waiting to see what the terms are. This is not over by a long shot.

  37. all is well in pit now….
Ben’s opening a new burger joint too,
    called…… drum roll…..
    Raper-Burger

  38. Ben Roethlisberger isn’t expected to join his teammates for voluntary off-season workouts. Rothlisberger doesn’t like anything voluntary.
Ben “If the stall doesn’t fit, you must acquit” Roethlisburger was offered a stern message by the NFL and the Rooneys. There will be no motorcycles, no drunken binges, no stupid vulagarity, no abuse of women, lose the fat and lose the mullett if you want stay in the game.
    He’s thinking it over.

  39. Rooney made it clear there will be a punishment–and that’s as it should be. This is an internal team matter and the team will handle it. I still favor making him clean all the toilets at the stadium and spend his off hours doing community service.
dabarber … you really are obsessed with donkey punches, aren’t you? Nowhere in the Georgia woman’s or the Nevada woman’s statements do they even allege that Roethlisberger donkey-punched them. You’re kinda sick. Why don’t you find a nice S&M site and settle down?

  40. I am a lifelong Steelers fan and I am staying 100% unbiased on the situation. If they trade him and get good value in return, I respect the decision. If they keep him and suspend him, I respect the decision. I think that is the right thing to do in this situation.
My first thought was that this was the best way to state that they will punish him while leaving open the opprotunity for trade.
My second thought was there is no way in hell they trade him.
The Rooneys are in an impossible situation. Trade him and you lose the fans who want to win, as well as some games over the next couple seasons. Keep him and lose the fans that have somehow determined that he is guilty. Not to mention the careers (coaches, agents, other players) which will be affected by their decision either way.
One thing is for sure. No one, not Steelers fans, not the Rooneys, no one with the best interest of the Steelers in mind gives a damn what the bloggers and commentors think. Again, if the Steelers keep him the haters rejoice because they can bash him for the next year. Trade him and the haters rejoice because the Steelers lose a top 5 QB and their team has a better chance of beating them next year.
No matter what they decide there will be fans and non-fans alike that speak out against the choice, although they have different motives for doing so. I will remain a Steelers fan through and through, waving my Terrible Towel for whoever is at QB next season.
I hope some of the more intellegent commentors understand my stance on the matter.

  41. Every business has a lower standard of being fired for employees who perform lower quality work. I mean it is not unheard of for someone to get fired strictly for doing just that, a bad job. It does sound ridiculous, but if you put together a borderline employee and a scandal you are more likely to fire him than someone whom has proven time again that they can be an asset when he gets into trouble. The expression “good help is hard to find” wasn’t coined because it was ironic. I am a lifelong Steelers fan from North Hills, but I would be okay with shipping Roethlisberger for a nice draft package. It hasn’t looked good for the organization and this would set an incredible precedent for the future of the Steelers organization, which has always prided itself (whether you agree or not) on being a classy organization but has clearly gone into a rough patch.

  42. “In documents released Wednesday, Nicole Biancofiore told investigators from the Georgia Bureau of Investigations that her friend, a student at Georgia College & State University, “was dragged by a bodyguard to the back room in Capital [City, a local nightclub]. She was extremely intoxicated and not aware of what was happening.”
“He had sex w/me and meanwhile his bodyguards told my friends they couldn’t pass them to get to me,” the accuser wrote in her statement, which was reported in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.”

  43. Believe it was a wink and a nod from Goodell to Rooney that the team do the dirty work. NFL has never punished a player who’s never been charged and they could be in conflict with the CBA. They start punishing players for off the field conduct where there’ve been no charges, they’d never field enough players for a team, a precedent even Pope Goodell would not like.

  44. “Another friend, Aliesha Scholten, told investigators that she tried to open the locked door, but “she was taken away by a bodyguard of Ben’s.”
A third friend, Ann Marie Lubatti, told police, that she “approached the other security guard and told him that she [the accuser] was in no shape to be back there with Ben Roethlisberger. He couldn’t look me in the eye, and told me he didn’t know what was going on. My friend went to open the door, and it was locked.”

  45. Rooney “DID NOT” say that the punishment would come from the Steelers.
What he said was that the Steelers and the league would colaborate together on the punishment.
If the league hands down the suspension, the only appeal is right back at the commish, meaning punishment stands period.
If it comes from the team, it can be appealed by the players association.
Trust me, The league will be handing out this one.

  46. And just earlier today I was wondering how the Steelers would handle this press conference if they really wanted to trade Ben. And all I could think of was, “punish him after the draft.”

  47. Was that a Ravens Fan saying something…..I do believe Ray Lewis was invloved in a MURDER….and what happened there. STFU TWAT!!!!

  48. To C.Bass who says “only because you feel he’s guilty, not b/c he is guilty.”
No one can argue his guilt on the rape charge. A frustrated DA made it clear that he couldn’t be prosecuted so legally there is no crime.
What he is guilty of is shaming the Steeler organization, the NFL, his teammates, his family, etc. This wasn’t a one time isolated example of poor judgement. It is another in a list of idiotic and often disgusting behaviors. These failures are worthy of a suspension with the hoped for result that he will wake up, clean up his act, and be a team leader you can be proud of.

That will never happen, Florio, the Steelers are a corrupt organization.

  51. @RebaT
The owner WILL NOT do what the public wants because they MOST of the public (which includes you) are fickle IDIOTS. Next year, all will be forgotten. The only thing that really matters to fans is wins. You guys are talking this crap now because it is the hot discussion item. As soon as this BS dies down, it will back to normal. If you run your business on what the sheep want at the time, you will go out of business.
Believe me, the Rooneys understand the sheoeple. Now, if Ben happens to do this again. that will be 3 strikes. Then, it is an easy decision to get rid of him.
Moral of the Story: You don’t matter RebaT

  52. Once again the league blows a chance to show that they are fair with dishing out punishments. This won’t be the first time someone has been suspended without being charged. Clearly he is doing the Rooneys a favor by allowing Ben to play. I’m sure the league players have taken notice and the next time someone gets suspended all hell will break loose. As it should. A travesty of justice. But I’m not surprised. Is anyone really?

  53. RAY “MURDERER” LEWIS who killed someone didnt get a suspension….why should Ben for a girl who was wasted in a bar she shouldnt have been in, in the first place. I think the Bar should be held responsible.

  54. “Moving forward, the Steelers must be committed to holding all players to the same standard.”
So only the Steelers favor their star players? Please.
    http://abcnews.go.com/Sports/story?id=100761&page=1
Ray Lewis wasn’t suspended for his involvement in a DOUBLE MURDER. The greatest player in Ravens history literally with blood on his hands, and he was only fined.
Yet every other troll on here is a Ravens fan, clamoring for Ben’s suspension.
I say Ben gets suspended only when the ravens give back their superbowl trophy for winning with a CONVICTED criminal.

  55. Im going to laugh so hard when he gets a 4 game suspension, then dennis dixon wins the first 4 games and they dump the guy off for a 1st rounder and a possible 3rd rounder the next year. Its the cutler thing all over again, except this guy really deserves to be shipped out of town.

  56. “Previously, the Steelers have at times used a double standard, ignoring the off-field issues of key players and swiftly cutting ties with marginal players who get in trouble. Moving forward, the Steelers must be committed to holding all players to the same standard.”
I am sure the Rooneys have dually noted your “opinion” of how they should run their franchise, Florio. However, as you undoubtedly know, the dollar is the trump card in these situations.

  57. The precedent has already been set. While it wasn’t Goodell, Rozelle suspended Hornung and Karras for gambling on the NFL and neither was arrested or charged.

  58. SonsCompass: You are really lost !!! There are only 2 things lower than the number of winning seasons the Bungles have had in the last 20 years; (1) The number of Bengals in Canton and (2)your IQ…and one of those is only 1 !!! PS: The only time Carson will get to hold a Lombardi is if Ben lets him hold our 7th !!!

  59. 1. Yea he’ll only get 2 games suspended…no big deal for us.
    2. Yea he’s an idiot…no big deal either…we know what we have and we do not deny it.
    3. Yea he’s a talented QB that most teams would love to get!
    4. Yea we got 6 SB’s and no one else does!
    5. Yea the haters can’t stand 1- 4 and we love it!
    GO STEELERS!

  60. Talk about setting a precedent. I’ve got a real problem with this -whatever the legalities, whatever the reasoning a punishment by the team does NOT carry the same weight as discipline by the league.
This is a huge cop out by Goodell and it’s also a favor to the Steelers and a slap in the face to all the teams that have had suspended players and weren’t given the same consideration.

  61. LOL at all you guys about the discipline coming up. The true discipline is not mentioned by anyone. Mark my words…wedding bells will be ringing for big Ben before next season.
The word Ben got from the Rooneys was…”Get your butt married….even for just a year or two, stay home and look like you are f*** floundered for a while and all will be OK.
Ben, just go down to cheerleader tyouts, find one you like and give her a million bucks, which is less than you gave the Georgia girl, and marry her.”
lmao at you guys who haven’t figured that outt

  62. Time for the Steelers to show some of the class they are always saying they have and give ben the boot!

  63. Time for the Rooney’s to show their fans the class they always wnat to say they have and give Ben the Big Boot.

  64. Hey Ricken,
Yea us Ravens fans love your Squeeler Rapistberger is in trouble for rape. If you don’t like the shoe on the other foot, do something about it. Tell your Squeeler organization to get rid of him. Otherwise you are a hypocrite, Squeeler fan. Lastly, learn how to spell rapist. Typical Squeeler fan, didn’t graduate elementary school.

Karras and Hornung were GAMBLING ON NFL GAMES, not drinking in college bars. No precedent has been set with regard to Roethlisberger and the NFL. You’ve gone long past the point of ridiculous.
    @Texans Mike …
Rooney said they are collaborating with the league so there will only be one punishment meted out. I don’t believe the NFLPA will appeal unless Roethlisberger chooses to appeal, and I don’t think that will happen. No matter what people think of his morals, Roethlisberger hasn’t done anything to warrant league suspension. No other player has been suspended in similar circumstances. Period. Goodell should not set this precedent of suspending players based on accusations of wrongdoing and the whims of a fickle, biased, and easily swayed public. The team has more discretion to impose high conduct standards on its players. This is an internal matter and the Steelers should handle it.

  68. LMAO You Raven fan’s don’t have a lot of room to talk – your city is a sh*t hole, and your most beloved player was involved in a double homicide – “glass house you douche bags.

  69. @nflisking
Yes, that is all I care about is his on field performance (that would go for any athlete) that is where he is a winner. You calling me ignorant is pretty funny, you probably think athletes should be role models and they should be held to higher standards, why? (We as a society pretty much let them do what ever they want) No, matter if he gets traded or stays in the Burg, all he has to do is win and all will be forgotten. If you think im wrong check your history.

  70. Suspended for what?!?!?! Going to a bar and getting laid. Like NFL dictator Roger Goodell, hypocrite Rooney’s, or that diptard Terry Bradshaw never stayed out too late on a school night. Get all the tail you can, while you can Ben, because in 30 years your going to be Bradshaw.

  71. @ Trox
He has not gotten off twice as you imply. The first case is A) still pending, and B) a civil case where no criminal charges were made whatsoever. I could also point out that McNutty brought her suit against BR after a failed attempt at getting money from her employer, but I doubt you would pay much attention.
I am sure that whatever team you support is a bunch of angels, and has not once crossed the line of the law. If they had, I doubt we would be hearing your holier than thou bullshit about how BR should be punished.
I am very leary of his “innocence” and am curious as to how this plays out in the coming weeks.

  72. Let me see, black qb fights dogs… Prison
white Qb accused of rape TWICE… 2 games?
    You gotta love America!!!!

  73. Deb says:

    **********************
If you look at what Florio wrote, he said: Policy, which means that the NFL won’t have to create a new precedent based on suspending players who has never been arrested nor charged
Neither of them were arrested or charged. Is that too much for you to understand? He didn’t make any distinction about gambling or drinking in a college bar, just that no one has been suspended without having been arrested or charged. I beleve that what I mentioned FITS THAT DESCRIPTION.

  74. ANYONE who thinks NFL fans are going to forget about Rapistberger being a rapist is seriously fooling themselves. There are going to be people chanting, jeering and harassing Steeler fans about Rapistberger for years. All you a-hole Steeler fans that make a point of annoying other football fans talking about all the damn rings, guess what? EVERY FREAKIN TIME you open your mouth now, some drunk a-hole in a bar (probably the ONE guy in the bar as annoying as yourselves) will start hollering about Rapistberger and making crude jokes. In front of your kids if you brought them.
Hilarious. You really think a 2-game suspension is going to make people forget that your star QB is a freaking rapist? The whole world is going to see the Steelers as SCUMBAGS and RAPISTS as long as that dude is in any way associated with that team. You can say whatever you want about Vick or anyone else, Rapistberger is unique here because he is RAPING UNDERAGED GIRLS. That is some sick stuff. And as much as these yahoos like the Rooneys just want to keep making money above all else, they will be constantly reminded my those of us who find it morally repugnant. YOU ARE EMPLOYING AND ENABLING A KNOWN RAPIST. A man who feeds alcohol to minors and then RAPES them.
Rooney, unless you take drastic action NOW, you are going to face some nasty allegations for a long long time. Justify it any way you want, it’s going to play out as well for you as it is for the Pope. And that dude’s followers actually call him God. And he’s going to be fired for harboring rapists. People tend to see that as a bad thing, Rooney. But by all means, take the easy road, give him a 2 game suspension and go back to normal… it will FOREVER tarnish that “classy” legacy you say you want so bad. Cuz there ain’t a thing less classy than a RAPIST.

  75. To all the Steeler fans who think it’s only Ravens fans dogging on them:
It’s NOT. I’m a Seahawks fan, I don’t care about your division or even your conference. Don’t care about the Steelers, Browns, Ravens OR Bengals. And I definitely don’t think Ray Lewis’ case compares at all. Ray Lewis was trying to break up a fight, ONCE. Everyone who knew him said he was a very mellow likable guy, and he never hard character issues before or after that incident.
This is way different. Rapistberger has had the same allegations thrown at him multiple times by different people. Allegations of RAPE. The DA released details that, to any reasonable person, cast a very negative light on Rapistberger’s character at the very least. He was providing alcohol to a minor, got her too loaded to talk straight, and then had “non-intercourse” sexual contact where the girl ended up with vaginal brusing, bleeding and cuts consistent with RAPE. Only reason your boy Rapistberger isn’t going to prison is because he was too drunk to keep it up. Those are known FACTS. He bought that girl off because she was afraid it would ruin her life. Nobody has stood up for Rapistberger, everyone who has met him says he is a major prick.
Say and believe what you want, Steeler fans. As long as your team is associated with a RAPIST, you are going to be getting an earful from EVERY NFL FAN. Keep defending your rapist, though. Keep supplying us all with more ammo.

  76. What? They maybe will suspend him for four games? What a half-assed organization the Steelers are. Pretty soon people will start confusing them and Rooney with the Dallass Crackheads and Jerry (“Anything to Win”) Jones. If the Steelers were a class outfit, they would cut Roethlisberger loose, just as the Packers did with James Lofton and others when they were accused of rape. (FYI: Hornung and Karras were suspended by Pete Rozelle.)

As to the “facts,” take care throwing around that word if you’re going to make no effort to actually post the facts as provided by DA Bright.
A minor is a child under the age of consent, which is 16 for a Georgia female. An underage drinker is someone under the legal drinking age, which in Georgia is 21. The DA described the accuser as 20 and a half. She was a legal adult and barely under the legal drinking age. The DA said Ben was buying drinks for the room that were being placed on the table, and the people in the room were both over and under 21. He was not specifically buying drinks for that woman. The DA also said she had been drinking prior to joining Roethlisberger’s party.
As a rape survivor, I take rape accusations seriously. But I’m also deeply offended by women crying rape without merit. Roethlisberger is a sleaze. No argument for me on that. But these women are no better. It didn’t take me 12-13 hours to recall whether I’d been raped or even whether I’d had sex. And what happened to me didn’t occur in a span of 10 minutes. That’s 10 minutes from the time she left to go to the bathroom until she was back with her sorority sisters fully clothed. Are you kidding?
Do some research. Nevada’s story is contradicted by her own text messages, e-mails, and friends. After she kept talking about wanting to go to Pittsburgh and see Ben again and wanting to see him when he returned for the next tournament, the hotel asked her to take paid leave while he was there. That’s when she sued for $3 million.
Georgia said she wasn’t raped and couldn’t even remember having sex, then changed her mind. The DA said she and Ben were engaged in sexual conversation and conduct all evening that was definitely a two-way street but he didn’t want to reveal the “salacious” details.
I’ve known women who were drugged, held at gunpoint, gang raped, overpowered, stalked for months and even years, beaten, and raped as children. Please stop insulting them by talking about one supposed “victim” who told friends she hoped she was pregnant with a little Ben, and another who willingly drank herself into oblivion while willingly carrying on with him then couldn’t even remember if she’d had sex–and the rape kit said she didn’t.
As the DA said at the very end of his press conference: “I prosecute crime, not sin.” Roethlisberger is an ass, but he’s not a criminal. And these women aren’t victims of anything but their own stupidity.
The team will either get him under control or they’ll dump him. Period.

I suggest you take an overall look at the posts here. YOU my friend are in the minority. Why don’t you crawl up Ben’s butt and take a BIG WHIFF!! That’s about all you are worth anyways. You moron, of course the Rooneys care what we think. If they didn’t, there would be NO team! Nice GED you have. You are definitely blue collar as well. Why don’t you worry about that foreclosure notice you got and less about a criminal. You probably rooted for OJ to go free too. LOSER

  79. Some of the comments are just too sick. I cannot believe that anyone one, male or female, would support Ben R . . . his MO is force with young girls, giving them drugs to ‘loosen them up”, counting on his bodyguards to protect him and feed him the girls. This is sick. The Rooney family is nuts to condone what Ben is doing. Perhaps it is time for a civil lawsuit and include the Steelers/Rooney’s, the Commissioner and anyone else with any kind of control over Ben along with ALL OF HIS BODYGUARDS and, of course, Ben. This is sick. Disgusting. This is criminal and the Rooney family is enabling Ben. How would any of them like it to be their daughters, sisters, granddaughters, friends, etc? Take some action and take it now.

Sorry. I don’t consider 95% of the people on here actual fans of anything. More like drama-crazed morons who won’t post a remotely intelligent football-related comment when an actual football-related thread is posted, but will run their mouths about off-the-field concerns because you don’t need to have any knowledge of football to do so. Thus, run your mouth all you want.
Furthermore, I won’t defend anyone; I’ve said from the outset that if he did anything, he deserves to be charged, and I still agree with that. If you look at polls that are conducted in Pittsburgh, a sizable number of people think he should be traded; people who look at it objectively can see around it. That said, it doesn’t mean I want to hear the opinion of some Starbucks-slurping yuppie shithead from Washington or wherever the hell you’re from.
It’s one thing to defend the guy at this stage of the game; it’s another to realize that the same tired comments have been made a million times, and if you’re not going to chime in with a somewhat knowledgeable comment, then shut your mouth and go read about the shitty Seahawks.

  81. fhbj2000 says: Get all the tail you can, while you can Ben, because in 30 years your going to be Bradshaw.
I’d be willing to bet that Bradshaw could get more tail now than Ben- that is if we’re talking unforced tail.

  82. Keep in mind that the suspensions won’t even be announced till after the draft! This is HUGE. Don’t think for a minute that the Steelers do not have anything up their sleeve. They do. The Rooneys aren’t going to give this guy a 4 game suspension (max a team can do) and then forget about it. Are you kidding? No, it’s not going to be that simple for Ben. Nope, not at all. The Steelers have their eye on someone in the draft. Once the draft is completed, then the Rooneys will know what playing field their on to get that one player. Oh yeah, it’s not over – AT ALL! Ben won’t be a Steeler when pre-season is over.

    He’s thinking it over.
ummm shows once again how slow you are.. Ben has been at the facility PRACTICING the past few days SUNSHINE!

  86. Why doesn’t Art Rooney II let Ben date one of his grand-daughters. That would be something. Woman are running from him and it isn’t just because Ben is ugly.

  87. Packman Jones was not charged or convicted it was people he was with causing trouble and he was suspended for 1 year. It does seem a different punishments for different races. Goodell should give Rothlesberger the same punishment other players get for similar offenses. It is an insult to white trash to call Ben by the same name. I won’t be watching the Steelers on any National Programs this year.
I think Goodell should force Big Ben to hang out with Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan & Jesse James. Then he might learn how to find women without getting them drunk and knocking them down. He must be the stupidest athlete in any league. All the poontang out there wanting to give it away and he can’t even find one woman that is willing. He should be traded for being too stupid to find a bimbo.

YA FKN HICK.. WE DONT TAKE OUR KIDS TO THE BAR……

  90. Deb,
Yeah, the girl’s plan since the morning was to drink a lot and then get assaulted. NOT. You can have sex without intercourse, or don’t you know that?

Once again, it wouldn’t be the first time it happened.

I would LOVE to know where idiots like you get your information. Do you just dream it up in your heads and spout it as fact?
April 2005–PacMan Jones was investigated by police for a nightclub altercation in Georgia
July 2005–Jones was CHARGED w/assault, felony vandalism for nightclub altercation in DC
Sept 2005–police called to subdue Jones following altercation at Nashville sports luncheon
Oct 2005–petition filed by West Virginia to extend probation on previous case because Jones failed to report to probation officer and to report July ARREST
Feb 2006–Jones CHARGED with felony and misdemeanor obstruction of justice and marjijuana possession in Georgia; possession charge later dismissed
Aug 2006–Jones ARRESTED for disorderly conduct, public intoxication in Tennessee; six months probation
Oct 2006–CITED for midemeanor assault in Nashville; suspended by Titans for one game
Feb 2007–allegedly assaulted Las Vegas stripper; shooting ensued in which someone allegedly in Jones’s party shot former wrestler Tommy Urbanski, paralyzing him. DA announced Jones would face two felony charges, but he pleaded no contest to one charge of misdemeanor conspiracy. Received one-year suspended sentence, probation, 200 hours community service.
June 2007–questioned following shooting at Atlanta strip club involving his entourage
At that point–after MULTIPLE ARRESTS and two shooting incidents in one year–Goodell FINALLY suspended Jones for the 2007 season. That was his FIRST league suspension.
Ben Roethlisberger has never been arrested, charged, fined or disciplined by the league for any reason. What happens to him now should be left up to the Steelers.

  93. “A minor is a child under the age of consent, which is 16 for a Georgia female. An underage drinker is someone under the legal drinking age, which in Georgia is 21. The DA described the accuser as 20 and a half.”
Describing her as “20 and a half” stinks of an attempt at mitigation. You’re either under the legal drinking age or not. I wonder how much Ben and the Steelers have to pay for all these people to do the PR work that they do for them?

  94. “It didn’t take me 12-13 hours to recall whether I’d been raped or even whether I’d had sex. And what happened to me didn’t occur in a span of 10 minutes. You’re assuming that all sexual assaults and all victim reactions to sexual assault are the same. You’re also assuming that Ben can last more than a few minutes before he either “finishes” or gets “whiskey dick” and gives up.

  95. @Vox Veritas …
That “20 and a half” was a direct quote from the DA. Stay off me on this one.

  96. Deb, Be careful when supplying so much insight and facts – the Steeler haters won’t know what to do. All I have to say is your innocent until PROVEN guilty.

  97. Deb, nobody cares about Pacman you f**king lowlife. Nice attempt at deferral though.
Face it, you are a lowlife like your favorite serial rapist QB. And nothing you say is ever going to stop the onslaught of harassment that you and other Steeler fans will be facing every time you wear your ugly rapist jerseys.

  98. Hey Steeler-lady:
You’re wrong. Squealers don’t just take their kids to the bar, they get em drunk and rape them in the bathroom, just like their hero, Little Jen Rapistberger.
GO RAPISTBERGER!! GO SQUEALERS!! Such a proud, proud franchise. With that disgusting, fat, piggish, SERIAL RAPIST for a QB, what a fitting symbol for a city in decay (both financial and moral)!! But hey, you guys love your RAPISTBERGER. Why not? It’s okay to rape children, as long as you’re a SQUEALER!!!

  99. Deb,
You really like to see your name in print on these posts, don’t you? Ugh. Make a point without writing a bloody novel! Oh wait, you rarely do make a point with the novels. Nevermind.
Your BOY BEN is going down. The Rooneys have something up their sleeves with this waiting till after the draft. Why? To know what the schedule is to sit Ben 4 games on weenie teams? OR… trade time and wanting to know where the cards lie after the draft? The latter makes more sense. The Steelers have their eye on somebody.
Ben is shaking in his boots right now but after Art’s “second chance” for Ben (more like the 4th chance) he will grin from ear to ear thinking he got away with it again. Maybe a couple more concussions and we can be rid of him on the team once and for all!

.RebaT, It’s time for you to get back on your meds and check with your shrink for stronger dosages. You are really sick.

  101. RebaT …
Okay, I’ll make this short and sweet.
It’s over your head, but from the get-go, I’ve been arguing principles not supporting Ben. I’m a Steelers fan, not a Roethlisberger fan.
I expect them to punish Ben. It’s their responsibility, not the league’s. If they sit him, fine. If they trade him, bye. I’ll support whatever the team does.
It’s a shame it has come to this, but he’s the dingdong who threw a frat-party in Georgia.
I still think he’s a heckuva QB. I still don’t think he raped anyone.

  102. Deb,
Go away with your white biased. You know you are racist.
Big Ben is sexual pervert, and like most of the whites in this country, think it’s okay to sexually abuse other people, because of a superiority attitude.
The only reason you stick up for Big Deviant, is because you wish you wear the girl who exposed himself to.
    FO Deb
Take your Steeler and Dong glasses off.

  103. Come on, Deb is passionate about her Steelers and I don’t think that she’s a racist and she certainly doesn’t deserve some of the hate being thrown at her. Direct it at Ben.

  104. Thanks, edgy1957 and Rafterman.
Dogsweat is just an ignorant Steeler-hater who was probably drunk when he posted. I’d hate to think someone could drool that much stupidity sober. Ben is white, the Georgia woman is white. I fail to see how race enters into it. I defended Michael Irvin in the 1990s the same way I’m defending Ben. But I don’t see color; I see issues. Dogsweat just sees double.
